Este estudo objetivou identificar a rede social e os tipos de apoio social, avaliando os vínculos apoiadores, na perspectiva das famílias de crianças em condição crônica. Delineou-se um estudo descritivo-exploratório, com abordagem qualitativa, baseado no depoimento de famílias residentes no município de João Pessoa-Paraíba. A produção do material empírico ocorreu entre novembro de 2008 a janeiro de 2009 a partir da entrevista semi-estruturada, da observação participante e da construção do ecomapa. Na análise obtiveram-se dados que foram agrupados na categoria: identificação da rede e do apoio social à família. Os resultados apontam que a rede social é fonte de fortalecimento para a família e criança superarem adversidades relacionadas à doença crônica. A família tem poucas conexões com a comunidade e sua rede e apoio social são formados pela assistência hospitalar, acompanhantes de outras crianças hospitalizadas e apoio espiritual. Reconhecer a família como sujeito ativo no cuidado à criança em condição crônica é fundamental, pois ao estabelecer parceria com a família, abrem-se espaços de escuta e acolhida para produção compartilhada do cuidado e a possibilidade de construção de redes e apoio social necessários para o enfrentamento da condição crônica na infância. Objective: To evaluate the presence and extent of comprehensiveness in children' s healthcare in the context of the Family Health Strategy. Method: Evaluative, quantitative, cross-sectional study conducted with 344 family members of children at the Family Health Units of João Pessoa, PB, Brazil. Data were collected using the PCATool Brazil -child version and analysed according to descriptive and exploratory statistics. Results:The attribute of comprehensiveness did not obtain satisfactory scores in the two evaluated dimensions, namely "available services" and "provided services". The low scores reveal that the attribute comprehensiveness is not employed as expected in a primary care unit and points to the issues that must be altered. Conclusion:It was concluded that the services should be restructured to ensure cross-sector performance in the provision of child care. It is also important to improve the relations between professionals and users to promote comprehensive and effective care.Keywords: Integrality in health. Primary health care. Child health. Os dados foram coletados por meio do PCATool Brasil -versão criança e analisados à luz da estatística descritiva e exploratória.Resultados: Observou-se que o atributo integralidade não obteve escores satisfatórios nas duas dimensões avaliadas, a saber, serviços disponíveis e serviços prestados. Os baixos escores obtidos revelam que o atributo não possui a extensão esperada para um serviço de Atenção Primária à Saúde e apontam para aspectos que requerem mudanças.Conclusão: Registra-se a necessidade de reestruturação dos serviços, buscando articulações intersetoriais na oferta da atenção à saú-de da criança e a valorização das relações entre profissionais e usuários a fim de promover uma dimensão cuidadora efetiva e integral. Estudo descritivo-exploratório com abordagem qualitativa com o objetivo de identificar as imposições e os conflitos enfrentados no cotidiano pelas famílias de crianças com doença crônica. Os dados foram coletados entre novembro de 2008 e janeiro de 2009 mediante entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas em um hospital público, referência no tratamento de doença crônica, com três famílias residentes no município de João Pessoa - PB, e processados a partir da análise temática. Os resultados apontam que os conflitos e imposições no cotidiano da família envolvem o abandono do emprego, ocasionando desequilíbrio financeiro; redução/interrupção dos momentos de lazer; incompreensão social e familiar; sobrecarga do cuidador principal; desestruturação familiar e relacionamentos fragilizados com repercussão negativa em toda família. Aponta-se a necessidade de os profissionais de saúde conhecerem o contexto de vida da criança com doença crônica e sua família, a fim de obterem elementos para um planejamento adequado de superação dos percalços decorrentes da doença.
