A pesquisa qualitativa teve por objetivo analisar como os professores de ciências nas comunidades tradicionais concebem o termo “contextualização do ensino” e quais são as implicações dessas concepções para a promoção do diálogo intercultural nas salas de aula. Os dados foram obtidos através de entrevistas semiestruturadas com duas professoras de biologia de uma escola pública do estado da Bahia que atende estudantes agricultores e a análise se deu com base na Análise de Conteúdo proposta por Laurence Bardin. No geral, os resultados indicam que essas professoras concebem a contextualização dos conteúdos de ensino como fundamentalmente nas realidades dos educandos. Embora a contextualização no ensino possa estar relacionada às realidades dos estudantes, entendemos que essa não é a única via, sendo necessárias mudanças nas concepções das professoras de modo a inserir a história e da filosofia da ciência como forma de contextualização dos conteúdos dentro da perspectiva do diálogo intercultural.
