Résumé Dans la présente contribution, qui prolonge, d’une part, une série d’études sur les noms généraux (« shell nouns », « noms sous-spécifiés ») et, d’autre part, une série d’études sur la précision et l’approximation, il s’agira de revenir tant sur les noms généraux que sur les notions de précision, d’approximation et de flou, pour s’interroger sur la nature de la relation établie entre les noms généraux et les items (groupes nominaux ou entités plus larges) qu’ils reprennent de façon compacte. S’agit-il d’un réseau hiérarchique ? Peut-on parler d’une Hiérarchie-être, d’une taxinomie ? Par ailleurs, la relation existant entre le nom général et son contexte repose-t-elle sur le flou et le vague ou, au contraire, la reprise par un nom général constitue-t-elle un acte de précision, du fait de vouloir donner un nom ou un label à un contexte, donc de vouloir le circonscrire ?
Résumé Cet article, qui traite de la préposition au-delà de en tant que marqueur de scalarité, poursuit un autre article décrivant les emplois scalaires possibles de groupes prépositionnels en jusqu’à ( cf . Adler & Asnes, 2004) et s’intègre dans un cadre théorique général de degré qui a connu un grand essor ces dernières années ( cf . Hay, Kennedy, Levin, 1999 ; Kennedy & McNally, 1999 ; Piñón, 2000 ; Kennedy, 2001 ; Kennedy & Levin, 2002 ; Caudal & Nicolas, 2003). Parmi les nombreux moyens d’expression de la scalarité, c’est surtout l’analyse des modifieurs de degré ( beaucoup , peu , très , etc.) et celle des modifieurs comparatifs ( plus que , moins que , etc.) qui ont attiré l’attention des chercheurs. Notre étude, qui enquête spécifiquement sur la question de savoir comment un syntagme à tête prépositionnelle est susceptible de mesurer une propriété ou un événement selon une échelle de degré, se propose donc de combler la lacune du domaine prépositionnel.
