O estudo com o objetivo de apontar a atuação e estratégias do controle interno como ferramenta de gestão para tomada de decisão no contexto da Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso (UNEMAT) foi desenvolvido a partir da pesquisa qualitativa, com levantamento de dados por meio de entrevista estruturada aplicada aos gestores dos onze campi e da sede administrativa. Os resultados apontam que os gestores reconhecem que o controle interno passou a ser ativo na instituição, o que oportunizou melhorias significativas na gestão em todos os sentidos, seja financeiro, administrativo, orçamentário, contábil, patrimonial e operacional. Resultando aos gestores a possibilidade de tomada de decisões a partir das orientações e prevenções trabalhadas, o que culminou na aprovação por unanimidade das contas da universidade pelo Tribunal de Contas. Conclui-se que os gestores avaliam a atuação e estratégias do controle interno como eficiente, pois realiza um trabalho envolvente convocando os gestores a desenvolverem sua gestão desprovida de erros, primando sempre pela garantia da aplicabilidade e execução do recurso público com responsabilidade, de forma a atender às necessidades da sociedade.
