Que se joue-t-il pour les professionnels de santé dans ces périodes dites de submersion ? Comment font-ils face à ces éprouvés multiples ? Quid du vécu, de la culpabilité, mais aussi des moyens de continuer à soigner malgré cette houle qui malmène ? Nous allons tenter ici d’explorer un phénomène fréquent et connu, mais pour autant malmenant à différents endroits, dans ce qu’il convoque chez chacun de nous de représentations angoissantes et mortifères.
Le contenu de ce texte, élaboré dans les trois premières semaines du confinement, est né d’une volonté de mise en mots d’une situation inédite et surprenante. Qui aurait cru pensable la situation dans laquelle nous avons été plongés au printemps 2020 ? Dans les hôpitaux, en unités de soins palliatifs et dans tous les services accompagnant des fins de vie, la mise à distance des proches et de certains professionnels a fait violence et a questionné, engendrant des conséquences parfois dramatiques, dans ce contexte de situation extrême que représente l’approche de la mort. Six mois plus tard, les questions subsistent et doivent trouver un espace de pensée afin d’envisager une vie – et une mort ? – possible en présence de la COVID.
