Objetivo: Analisar a relação entre os níveis de mercúrio em cabelo materno e o consumo de semanal de peixes. Métodos: Estudo observacional, transversal, descritivo e analítico, envolvendo parturientes atendidas na ocasião do parto ocorrido na maternidade pública referência para a região do Xingu, no período de março a dezembro de 2020. Coleta de informações sociodemográficas e de frequência semanal de consumo de peixes na dieta foram obtidas utilizando protocolo padrão. Concentrações de HgTotal foram medidas em cabelo através da espectrofotometria de absorção atômica. Resultados: Do total das participantes do estudo (105 pares mães e filhos) nenhuma apresentou níveis de mercúrio acima de 1 µg/g. A concentração média de HgTotal em cabelo foi 0,314 µg/g. Dentre as características demográficas das mães, 77,14% possuíam idade maior que 20 anos, a cor/raça parda foi predominante em 82,00% e a maioria das entrevistadas não possuía renda (34%). Dentre àquelas que consumiam pescado a maioria possuía baixo consumo de pescado, e o percentuais de mercúrio foi de 0,608 μg/g Conclusão: A exposição pré-natal ao mercúrio associada ao consumo de peixes na dieta, na região do Xingu é menor que a observada em outros estudos realizados na Amazônia, porém, as evidências de contaminação de peixes na região sugerem que essas mulheres necessitam ser acompanhadas periodicamente.
Objetivo: Investigar a prevalência da hipertensão arterial sistêmica e sua associação com a exposição pré-natal ao mercúrio em parturientes da região do Xingu. Métodos: Estudo observacional, transversal, prospectivo conduzido com 110 parturientes com idade de 15 a 40 anos. As usuárias foram investigadas quanto ao perfil socioeconômico, clínico, obstétrico e quantidade de mercúrio no cabelo. Resultados: A amostra apresentou maioria com atividade exclusivamente do lar, casadas e com o ensino fundamental cursado. 79.1% apresentaram idade gestacional entre 37 e 40 semanas. 13.6% eram primíparas, nenhuma fumava e 3.6% ingeriam álcool. A maioria apresentou hipertensão arterial sistêmica sistólica, 4.6% diastólica e 31.8% ambos os tipos. 99.05% apresentaram concentração de mercúrio total no cabelo < 2µg/g e baixo consumo semanal de peixe. Não foi observado associações estatisticamente significativas de mercúrio total com qualquer medida de pressão arterial sistólica ou diastólica e nem entre hipertensão arterial sistólica e a frequência de consumo de peixes. Observou-se diferença significativa na associação entre a hipertensão diastólica e mista com o consumo semanal de peixes. Conclusão: A referida população possui hipertensão arterial, baixo nível de exposição ao mercúrio ambiental e baixo consumo de peixe, embora sejam residentes em áreas potencialmente poluídas pelo mercúrio ambiental.
