This research was aimed at analyzing linguistic stylistics describing how women and men presented in texts by applying a feminist approach, i.e. feminist stylistics. This research focuses not only on stylistics analysis that considers linguistic structure and how it affects society, but also on how the position of women as actors, as well as the position of ideas or events presented in the text. This research used a qualitative method. The words, phrases or sentences, and discourses reflecting gender-specific in the novel become the data of the research. The researchers use Mills' feminist stylistics theory to analyze the data. In this study, there are several tendencies of women or men associated with the text. In a collection of poems, it is often found several italics at the bottom, and it is to emphasize the topic of the poem concerned. This research shows that Rupi Kaur, as the author, seems to want readers to understand his poetry as much as what he wrote and wanted. In addition, this study found that gender-specific terms are mostly used to refer primarily to female gender.
In the time of modern writing, women writers are increasingly free in raising the theme of their writing. Women are no longer reluctant to write things related to a woman’s body and it’s issue. This research aims to analyze the body of women and woman’s rights as portrayed in Rupi Kaur’s milk and honey (2014). This research belongs to library research that applied descriptive qualitative method with gynocriticism approach. Reading and selecting data techniques were used to collect the data. 28 poems raise the theme of the body of a woman and its issue used as the data in this research. To analyze the body of woman and woman’s rights in milk and honey, gynocriticism theory by Ellaine Showalter were used. The result of the analysis shows that: 1) Woman’s body is described into three aspects, that is objectification of the body, owner of the body, and strength of the body. 2) There are three ways for a woman to embrace their rights. First, a woman is asked to be able to accept and acknowledge herself as she is. Second, a woman is expected to love and consider herself precious and equal to a man. Third, women must be able to help and to support other women in fighting for their rights.
This study attempts to investigate materialism portrayed in The Winner Stands Alone and Crazy Rich Asians. The author uses novels as the object of research, namely the Crazy Rich Asian novel (2013) by Kevin Kwan and the novel The Winner Stands Alone (2008) by Paulo Coelho. In this work, the author used the sociological theory of literature and the theory of social class to analyze the novel. The method used to write this thesis is a qualitative descriptive method. The results and analyzes found in the novel relate to differences in social class and the differences and similarities of materialism in the two novels. This class difference arises from the existence of social class groups in which they classify their social class, namely the upper class, the middle class and the lower class. he does not want to accept the middle or lower class in his group. The difference in social class is measured in terms of power or wealth, privilege and prestige, which affect the position, lifestyle, habits and behavior of the upper, middle and lower classes. This is why the gap between the three classes is so striking. The conflict that arises is a gap in the social status of a group and in life or family relationships.
