Managing student's attendance during laboratories session is tedious due to the large number of students, and this problem is worsen if laboratories session is conducted in parallel due to the lack of resources and time. Hence, this paper is aimed to overcome this problem by using RFID-ARDUINO approach in web-based laboratories attendance system. The propose system will assist the lab instructor to record and manage the student attendance automatically. In addition, the system also provides an evaluation section for lab instructor to key-in and manage the student's experiment marks. The system is divided into two parts, which are the web-based development and system integration with the RFID-ARDUINO technology. An Arduino Uno microcontroller board is use as the hardware platform. Meanwhile, the web design is developed in Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Fireworks and deploy in XAMPP application server. Visual Basic scripting is use to integrate between hardware and SQL database. Upon testing, Web-based Laboratory Attendance System (LAS) is successfully facilitated the students' attendance and laboratory management on evaluation of student performance for particular experiment.
This study is to compare how Canny and Sobel Operators can be used as edge detection technique for various logo images. The main process involved Sobel and Canny edge detection techniques using captured logo images and logo images from internet. The images manipulated by median filtering to remove noise and Otsu's method is used to determine threshold value. The result shows that both operators have their own advantages and disadvantages to be used as edge detection aid for logo images.
Counterfeit medicine is a serious issue since it involves with the health of human. Objective of this work is to design a mobile application system for checking status of medicine approval by Malaysia Ministry of Health. This application is developed using Android based system. Before the products either traditional medicine or modern medicine are being distributed in the market, they should be registered with Malaysia Ministry of Health in order to ensure the customer's safety. The registration is needed to approve that the medicine is safe to be used. Methods that had commonly been used to identify the medicine are through website, barcode scanner, quick response (QR) code scanner and hologram scanner. However, in this project, the proposed method is text-search on Android platform. This system is expected to identify the status of pharmaceutical products, whether the medicine is counterfeit or not by using search query. Besides showing the status of the medicine, it also includes some other information such as product's name, holder, manufacturer and the dangerous substances contain in the medicine. All the information is stored in the mobile database.
