Loneliness threatens public mental wellbeing during COVID-19. In response, YouTube creators participated in the #StayHome #WithMe movement (SHWM) and made myriad videos for people experiencing loneliness or boredom at home. User-shared videos generate parasocial attachment and virtual connectedness. However, there is limited knowledge of how creators contributed videos during disasters to provide social provisions as disaster-relief. Grounded on Weiss's loneliness theory, this work analyzed 1488 SHWM videos to examine video sharing as a pathway to social provisions. Findings suggested that skill and knowledge sharing, entertaining arts, homelife activities, live chatting, and gameplay were the most popular video styles. YouTubers utilized parasocial relationships to form a space for staying away from the disaster. SHWM YouTubers provided friend-like, mentor-like, and family-like provisions through videos in different styles. Family-like provisions led to the highest overall viewer engagement. Based on the findings, design implications for supporting viewers' mental wellbeing in disasters are discussed. Abstract. Vehicle safety issues and component defects result in property losses and fatalities. Our study proposes a new method to predict vehicle recalls based on user generated contents in online discussion forums. Vehicle defects can cause bodily injuries and sometimes deadly consequences. However, vehicle recalls will not be issued until damage has occurred. Online vehicle discussion forums usually contain traits of vehicle defects long before manufacturers and government agencies take investigative actions. We find overlapping components in user generated contents and official recall notices. Our proposed recall prediction method can correctly predict vehicle recalls once in every two recall events. It is our hope that our proposed technique can be used to monitor online vehicle discussion forums and prompt the manufacturers and government agencies to issue recalls before catastrophic accidents occur. Our research has significant practical implications to vehicle and transportation safety.

This paper provides an overview of a collaborative design effort that involves computer scientists, psychologists, and designers working together to investigate design methods to help in the creation of technology to people with cognitive disabilities. The focus of this effort was in developing techniques to help novice designers create technology interfaces to support anger management in young people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The primary output for designers is a card set for which each card has a claim about an anger management technique that can help young people. Design activities leveraging scenarios and personas are suggested that leverage the card set in the creation of technology interfaces. This paper introduces the card set and supporting techniques, describes a design session in an undergraduate classroom setting, and speculates about future directions for this work.

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) videos have become a popular video genre on YouTube and attracted millions of views every day. However, there is limited understanding in HCI and CSCW of how the ASMRtist community on YouTube leveraged the multi-sensorial stimuli to design the experiences of calm and relaxation and construct parasocial relationships with the viewers. This work presents a typology to understand the multimodal interactions and parasocial attractiveness in YouTube ASMR videos. The annotation of 88 YouTube ASMR videos reveals that, beyond tingling sensation, ASMR videos are also experiences of social connection, physical intimacy, and activity observation. We describe the future design and research opportunities to utilize ASMR effects in video-based applications.
