AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown brought about an exogenous and unparalleled stock market crash. The crisis thus provides a unique opportunity to test theories of environmental and social (ES) policies. This paper shows that stocks with higher ES ratings have significantly higher returns, lower return volatility, and higher operating profit margins during the first quarter of 2020. ES firms with higher advertising expenditures experience higher stock returns, and stocks held by more ES-oriented investors experience less return volatility during the crash. This paper highlights the importance of customer and investor loyalty to the resiliency of ES stocks.
Although sustainability in the fashion industry has gained prominence from both business practices and academic research, retailing, a vital part of the supply chain, has not yet been fairly explored in academia. The interest in this area has increased lately, mainly due to the growing complexity within this dynamic context. Therefore, it is meaningful to conduct a systematic review of the relevant published literature in this field. This study aims to identify the main perspectives of research on sustainable retailing in the fashion industry. The content analysis results indicate that the most prominent areas in the field are sustainable retailing in disposable fashion, fast fashion, slow fashion, green branding and eco-labeling; retailing of secondhand fashion; reverse logistics in fashion retailing; and emerging retailing opportunities in e-commerce. The results from this review also indicate that there is a lack of research on sustainable retailing in the fashion industry in the developing market.
Purpose
This study aims to provide a taxonomy of relational benefits that drive customer loyalty in sharing-economy services, assess the relative strengths of these relational benefits in influencing customer loyalty and examine whether commitment mediates the influence of relational benefits on customer loyalty in this context.
Design/methodology/approach
Relational benefits of sharing-economy services were explored through a focus group interview, followed by an online survey completed by 440 respondents in China. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypotheses.
Findings
This study shows that confidence and social benefits have significant and positive effects on commitment in sharing-economy services. In addition, safety benefits, a new type of relational benefits, also significantly affect commitment in this context. Furthermore, the findings suggest that commitment acts as a mediator between confidence, social and safety benefits and customer loyalty. Special treatment benefits had no effect on commitment and loyalty in the sharing-economy context.
Practical implications
This paper provides sharing-economy service providers with insight on how to better create and sustain loyal relationships with customers through the provision of relational benefits.
Originality/value
This study offers initial insight into why customers would stay in peer-to-peer relationships in the sharing economy, and suggests how to strengthen relationships between customers and peer service providers.
shopping festival has become the largest national shopping festival in China. This study investigates the effect of the atmosphere during the Double-11 shopping festival on Chinese people's sustainable consumption by extending the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). A survey on a sample of 404 Chinese consumers showed that the atmosphere specific to China's Double-11 shopping festival was negatively associated with consumers' purchase intention toward sustainable consumption. Moreover, the negative relationship was mediated by consumers' attitude toward sustainable consumption, the subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control.
ObjectiveTo construct a predictive tool for the efficacy of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy in children with Kawasaki disease (KD) in Beijing, China.DesignThis was a cohort study. Data set (including clinical profiles and laboratory findings) of children with KD diagnosed between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2015 was used to analyse the risk factors and construct a scoring system. Data set of children with KD diagnosed between 1 January 2016 and 1 December 2016 was used to validate this model.SettingChildren’s Hospital Capital Institute of Pediatrics and Beijing Children’s Hospital.Patients2102 children diagnosed with KD.InterventionsNo.Main outcome measuresResponsiveness to IVIG.ResultsThe predictive tool included C reactive protein ≥90 mg/L (3 points), neutrophil percentage ≥70% (2.5 points), sodium ion concentration <135 mmol/L (3 points), albumin <35 g/L (2.5 points) and total bilirubin >20 μmol/L (5 points), which generated an area under the the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.77 (95% CI 0.71 to 0.82) for the internal validation data set, and 0.69 (95% CI 0.58 to 0.81) and 0.63 (95% CI 0.53 to 0.72) for two external validation data sets, respectively. If a total of ≥6 points were considered high-risk for IVIG resistance, sensitivity and specificity were 56% and 79% in the internal verification, and the predictive ability was similar in the external validation.ConclusionsThe predictive tool is helpful in early screening of high-risk IVIG resistance of KD in the Beijing area. Consequently, it will guide the clinician in selecting appropriate individualised regimens for the initial treatment of this disease, which is important for the prevention of coronary complications.
