Metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) has an important role in electric circuits because of its nano-size. However, MOSFETs have performance limitations to work in ultra-low power, leaky currents, short channel effects, and increased speed. These performance limitations make the tunneling field-effect transistor (TFET) an alternative to replace the MOSFET. In this study, a drain current on devices based on bilayer armchair graphene nanoribbon (BAGNR) was modeled using the Airy function approach. Solving the Schrödinger equation with the Airy function approach produces a transmittance value, and therefore the drain current value can be determined using the Launder formula with the Gauss Legendre Quadrature (GLQ) method. The results of the modeling show that the drain current value increases with the increasing gate voltage (Vg), drain voltage (Vd) and width of BAGNR, while the increase in oxide thickness and temperature decreases the drain current.
Hückel theory is a simple and powerful method for predicting the molecular orbital and the energy of conjugated molecules. However, the presence of nitrogen atoms in aza aromatic molecules alters the Coulomb and resonance integrals owing to the difference in electronegativity between nitrogen and carbon atoms. In this study, we focus on acridine and phenazine. Further correction is implemented based on the ring current model, thus revealing the change in resonance integral for the carbon–carbon bond along the bridge of the molecule. The Hamiltonian of the π–electron system in the Hückel method is solved using the HuLiS software. Various geometry-based aromaticity indices are used to obtain the aromaticity indices of the two non-equivalent rings. For further evaluation, the results for bond lengths are used to calculate the associated bond energy. Considering the carbon–hydrogen (CH) bonds, the total molecular energy is compared with the experimental heats of formation for a number of benzenoid hydrocarbons and aza aromatics, in addition to the two studied molecules. Finally, the correlation between the nitrogen atom on the aromaticity index and the ring energy content is evaluated to determine to which extent the Hückel model agrees with previous experimental and advanced computational studies.
Armchair Graphene Nanoribbon (AGNR) is one of the Graphene Nanoribbon (GNR)'s types which can be used as a semiconductor that arrange its width. Because of its tiny width, graphene is great to be applied on devices with tunneling electron-based. In this research, the author models the behavior of tunneling current on a bilayer armchair graphene nanoribbon-based p-n junction diode using Airy function. The modeling's result shows that the tunneling current has a relation with bias voltage, temperature, and characteristic of BAGNR. The tunneling current is directly proportional to the forwardbias, the width of the BAGNR, and the intrinsic electric field. It is inversely proportional to the temperature. Its value on BAGNR is bigger than on MAGNR due to the effect of interlayer coupling 0 and 1 to the energy gap. The tunneling current using the Airy function method and the WKB method have the same tendency and slight different value.
