Admission test may be best recommended in all patients irrespective whether they are in low or high risk as incidence of neonatal morbidity is high 33.3% babies required NICU admission and 33% babies expired in nonreactive tracing, in centers where advance facilities are not available. Whenever there is a nonreactive tracing further test should be carried out.
Introduction: In near peer assisted learning (NPAL)tutor is of the same level of education as with one to two years senior but within the same broad grade. Literature suggests that it fosters qualities like leadership, self-confidence and mentoring in tutors with simultaneous provision of a cordial learning environment to tutees. With this study we introduced NPAL in our newly established institute and assessed its feasibility, student’s perception, future applicability.Method: After having ethical clearance from institution, the students and faculty of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology were sensitized. The interns posted in labor room were designated as tutors and maternity students were included as tutees. The surgical hand scrub was the topic of teaching. The faculty taught interns and assessed, then interns taught maternity students and they were assessed by faculty members. The interns were again assessed by faculty. Afterwards both these interns and maternity students supposed to work together in labor room, the feedback was taken from all with a structured questionnaire using Likert scale.Result: The results were encouraging from all the corners, the tutors, tutees and faculty agreed that NPAL is a better method of teaching strongly enhancing the learning of tutors and their communication skills and develops positive attitude towards teaching as a part of their profession. The tutees found a cordial learning environment with a cognitive congruence with their tutors and felt very comfortable while working with them. Faculty also showed a positive attitude towards NPAL.Conclusion: NPAL is a good adjunct to standard teaching but could not substitute standard teaching.
BACKGROUND There is a wide range of adnexal masses ranging from functional cyst to infection and even malignancy. Epithelial ovarian tumours are the most common benign ovarian lesion. The purpose of this study was to study the pattern of adnexal masses in rural area and plan the preventive steps according to the pattern. METHODS It was a retrospective study of patients who presented with adnexal masses in Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College (Women), Khanpur, Sonepat, Haryana, India over a period of 5.5 years from September 2012 to August 2018. The file records of the patients who underwent surgery for adnexal masse were evaluated to identify the risk factors, presenting complaints, examination findings, serological markers and radiological findings. The histopathological reports were reviewed. The cases excluded were ectopic pregnancies. Frequency distribution tables were used and data was analyzed using percentages. RESULTS Out of total 180 adnexal masses, 167 (92.77 %) cases were of ovarian origin. Out of these, 150 (83.33 %) cases were benign and 17 (9.44 %) were malignant. Among the benign lesions, serous cystadenoma was the most common lesion counting for 54 cases i.e., 30 %. In our study, most common symptom was vague abdominal pain- 63.88 %. Maximum adnexal masses were in the age group of 41 - 50 years i.e., 53 (29.44 %). Different types of surgeries were done. Maximum were bilateral oophorectomies with transabdominal hysterctomy 88 (48.88 %). CONCLUSIONS By proper education about personal and perineal hygiene, use of contraceptives, we can at least prevent some sexually transmitted diseases causing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and adnexal masses. A urinoma is a continued perinephric or peripelvic extravasation of urine leading to the formation of encapsulated retroperitoneal urine collection due to the disruption of the urinary collecting system. Non-obstetric urinomas are usually the result of trauma, a urologic procedure, infection, and nephrolithiasis. We report a case of perirenal urinomas that were detected during the postpartum period.
