A ladder-like chain structure consisting of strong hydrogen bonds was developed from 1-deazahypoxanthine. In addition, electrostatic interactions derived from hydrogen-bond-induced π polarization contribute synergistically with interchain stacking to form very strong layered assemblies. Using structural data and difference Fourier diagrams obtained from single-crystal X-ray structural analyses, it was revealed that the quadrupole distribution of polarization charges on 1-deazahypoxanthine favored strong intermolecular interactions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
