SUMMARYThe fundamental configuration method and radiation characteristics are described for a new type of multiband planar antenna in which triangular microstrip antennas (MSA) with a Sierpinski fractal structure are used as the radiating elements. In order to verify the performance of the present antenna system, Sierpinski triangular microstrip antennas with multiband characteristics are fabricated for trial in the C band and X band. According to the experiment, excellent multiband characteristics can be obtained with the proposed antennas. The measured radiation patterns agree very well with those obtained by numerical calculations. Hence, it is clear that the present antenna system can be a promising format for a multiband planar antenna with a low profile.
SUMMARYThis paper describes the method of configuration and the radiation properties of a new type of multi-band planar antenna with a radiating element made of a microstrip antenna (MSA) with a slit-loaded modified Sierpinski Gasket fractal antenna. In order to verify the multiband characteristics of this antenna, triangular MSA elements loaded with slits of a modified Sierpinski Gasket structure are fabricated. According to the experiment, the present test antenna exhibits excellent multiband characteristics in the C-band and X-band. Also, the measured values of the return loss and the radiation patterns are in good agreement with the results given by an electromagnetic simulator in the range meaningful for design. Thus, this antenna system is a useful format for a multiband planar antenna.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
