In our retrospective assessment, GBI turned out to be a very useful and valuable tool in the evaluation of otoplasty. We demonstrated a long-lasting improvement in HRQoL after otoplasty for the prominent ears. Hybrid techniques are effective and satisfying treatment methods with high success rates for patients with prominent ears.
Case Case 1A male patient aged 51 was transferred to the hospital for main complaints of swelling sensation of pharynx, dysphagia and throat pain that had continued for several months. The patient visited other hospital seven months ago to receive the examination that showed the findings of left pharyngeal wall protrusion, injection and tenderness. The patient underwent the procedure of incision and drainage for two times under the diagnosis of left parapharyngeal abscess. When the patient visited this hospital, physical examinations showed that lateral wall of left oropharynx was severely protruded and pushed to the center and that uvula and left tonsil were dislocated to the right lower part respectively due to protrusion of the lateral Second branchial cleft cysts are the most common neck masses found in adults. However, the parapharyngeal presence of branchial cleft cyst is very rare. We report three cases of parapharyngeal branchial cleft cyst in adults. They suffered from frequent oropharyngeal infection or abscess. We performed a transoral resection without any surgical complications. Biopsy revealed a squamous lined epithelial wall with lymphoid aggregation, which is characteristic of branchial cleft cyst. No evidence of recurrence was observed in 2 years.
Spinal epidural abscess (SEA) is rare in children, especially in newborns and infants, groups in which only very few cases have been reported. Because of the nonspecificity of presenting symptoms in children the diagnosis may be delayed, resulting in major permanent neurological deficits. In this paper, we report a case of cervical SEA in a 6-week-old infant who initially presented with fever and developed quadriparesis 19 days prior to admission. After emergency anterior decompression of the abscess the neurological function was improved immediately. Five months after surgery the neurological status was normal, an MR study showing disappearance of the epidural abscess and spinal cord indentation, and progressive fusion of the C3, C4 and C5 vertebral bodies. Anterior decompression without bone graft can provide an excellent prognosis in case of an anterior cervical SEA in infants.
Carcinosarcoma, or true malignant mixed tumor of the salivary gland, is a very rare malignant tumor comprised of both carcinomatous and sarcomatous elements and accounts for only 0.04-0.16% of all salivary gland tumors. Carcinosarcoma usually occurs in the parotid gland. Other locations including submandibular gland, minor salivary gland, uterus, bladder or lung have been reported. We report a rare case of carcinosarcoma of the parotid gland in an 85-year-old female. The tumor was large, about 19×17 cm in size, and was successfully excised.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
