The hydrogenated diamond-like carbon (DLCH) film with 1-µm thickness is deposited by direct hydrocarbon gas ion beam method on silicon wafer and annealed at 400 • C. Detailed Raman spectra feature are fitted from nine sets of different peak fitting functions, including Gaussian, Lorentzian and Breit-Wigner-Fano (BWF) functions. These fitting results obtained from a two-peak combination show some specific variances on the G peak position, FWHM G and I D /I G ratio for as-deposited and as-annealed DLCH films. The most popular two-peak fitting method with full Gaussian function tends to exhibit a higher ratio of the G peak position shift and higher I D /I G ratio than others fitting methods, the drastic difference among the most popular G (G) & G (D) and B (G) & L (D) schemes also have brought out in I D /I G ratio. However, for a more complex four-peak Gaussian function fitting Raman spectra, the I D /I G ratio is close to that of a two-peak fitting function with a mixture functions of BWF (G) and L (D). Furthermore, a series of systematic peak fitting procedures and comparisons of Raman spectra have been discussed in this study.

Outbreaks of food-associated renal failure in pets occurred in Asia and the United States of America in 2004 and 2007. They were related to the combined intoxication of cyanuric acid and melamine. Our aims were to investigate cyanuric acid and melamine contamination of pet food and to examine subchronic toxicity in rats. Levels of 10%, 20%, 50%, and 50%-100% (w/w) of contaminated pet food were fed to rats for three months. Analytical results revealed that the tainted food contained significant levels of cyanuric acid and melamine in a ratio of 1:6.8. Rats fed the diet of 50%-100% for three months exhibited elevated serum blood urea nitrogen and creatinine, as well as dose-dependent melamine/cyanuric acid crystalinduced nephrotoxicity. The melamine/cyanuric acid crystals of various sizes were mixed with necrotic cell debris and inflammatory cells, accompanied by tubular dilation and interstitial fibrosis. The immunohistochemistry index of proliferative cellular nuclear antigen and osteopontin in the kidney of the 50%-100% group were elevated, indicating regeneration of renal cells and the formation of crystals. In conclusion, the combination ratio of cyanuric acid to melamine and the acidic urine content were two factors that, upon repeated exposure, determined the severity of the nephrotoxicity.

This paper reports a series of steady-state CO 2 -foam flow experiments performed at reservoir conditions of 101°F and 2100 psig. Three flow rates ͑total injection rates͒, 4.2, 8.4, and 16.8 cm 3 /h, and five foam qualities, 20%, 33.3%, 50%, 66.7%, and 80%, were used to study how flow rate and foam quality affect foam mobility.Results from these experiments show that foam mobility ͑total mobility of CO 2 /surfactant solution͒ increases with increasing flow rate and foam resistance factor decreases with increasing flow rate. Results also show that foam mobility decreases with increasing foam quality. Foam resistance factor increases with increasing foam quality ranging from 33.3% to 80%; there appears to be a minimum foam resistance factor between foam qualities of 20% and 33.3%.
