-007Preparation of Neodymium-Substituted LaB6 Single Crystals by the Floating Zone Method.-The growth of La1-xNdxB6 single crystals is described and compared with that of other hexaborides of the type La1-xLnxB6 with Ln: Ce, Pr, Sm, or Gd. Boundary-free crystals are obtained by adding ¿ 15 at.% NdB6 to LaB6. Automatic growth by using a computerized feed-rate control is shown to be effective for preparing boundary-free crystals reproducibly. On adding other rare-earth hexaborides to LaB6, boundary-free crystals are obtained when the lattice constants become smaller than 0.4153 nm. -(OTANI, S.; HONMA, S.; TANAKA, T.; ISHIZAWA, Y.; J. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
