Durante todo el 2020 la pandemia por el nuevo coronavirus (SARS-CoV2) trajo dificultades económicas y en salud a nivel mundial. Al ser desconocida planteó una serie de interrogantes y retos en todos los países que la han enfrentado con diferentes abordajes. Es necesario describir los modelos de afrontamiento en Colombia y sus resultados. Método: Estudio de corte transversal, usando como fuentes las bases de datos del Ministerio de Salud y del Instituto Nacional de Salud colombianos con fecha de corte al 31de agosto de 2020, 679.553 registros en la primera base, se retiraron 308 registros incompletos (0,0004%), se obtuvieron datos de morbimortalidad, de dinámica y canales endémicos para el país y su capital. Resultados: La pandemia se encontraba en un acmé, las medidas de control demoraron su progresión, permitieron disponer recursos físicos y humanos suficientes. La mortalidad fue similar a la descrita en otros estudios, pero la femenina fue mayor en Bogotá, los canales endémicos muestran que en todo momento la pandemia se encontró en niveles de alarma. Conclusiones: La magnitud de esta pandemia se asoció inicialmente con factores biológicos. Posteriormente, la velocidad de progresión y la morbimortalidad se asociaron con factores socioculturales que requieren ser entendidos con abordajes cuanticualitativos para el diseño de intervenciones integrales. De no realizarlos, en ausencia de medidas biológicas efectivas, rebrotes y nuevas oleadas son impredecibles. Las cuarentenas a largo plazo no son factibles en países como Colombia; se debe hacer énfasis en medidas educativas y socioculturales. Por ahora, convivir sin ellas es sinónimo de enfermedad.
