Introduction: Death of breast cancer remains the highest position in the totem of incidents not only in Indonesia but also in the world. Its treatment process, which in fact brings huge impacts to the life quality of breast cancer patients regarding physique, psychology, and social life, shapes some behavioral patterns throughout their life. The aim of this research is thus to explore patterns of breast cancer patients in sustaining their lifespan. Method: This research is designed using ethno-nursing qualitative approach. The sampling technique is done purposively to 6 informants, all of whom are breast cancer patients in Garut District, West Java, Indonesia. Data collecting is done through interviews and participatory observation. Data transcription is analyzed using ethno-nursing analysis method. Results: The result of the research shows four domains occurring as a pattern of inculturation of breast cancer patients in Sundanese culture, namely 1) dedication as wife and mother of Sundanese breast cancer patients, 2) medicine seeking for the rest of their life, 3) factors affecting to breast cancer patients adaptation for daily routines, and 4) family gathering as a meaning for end of life. Discussion: The result of this research shows an interconnected cultural pattern in the life of these patients. It is thus advised that nurses provide service to breast cancer clients by applying nursing care inherent to their cultural values.
Kematian akibat kanker payudara masih menempati urutan pertama pada kasus baru kanker di Indonesiabahkan di dunia. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi pola kehidupan klien kanker payudaradalam menjaga kualitas hidupnya. Teori Culture Care Diversity and Universality digunakan sebagai kerangkakerja dalam penelitian ini. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengambilansampel dengan purposive sampling pada 6 orang informan klien kanker payudara yang berada di KabupatenGarut. Pengumpulan data dengan teknik wawancara dan observasi partisipasi. Transkripsi data dianalisismenggunakan metoda analisis Transcultural Nursing dari Medeleine Leininger. Hasil penelitian menunjukandomain muncul sebagai pola enkulturasi kehidupan wanita penderita kanker payudara dalam budaya Sundayaitu: 1) pengabdian wanita Sunda, 2) adaptasi klien kanker payudara dalam menjalani kehidupannya,3) makna end of life. Kesimpulan penelitian, pola budaya tersebut saling berhubungan dalam kehidupanWanita Sunda dengan kanker payudara. Disarankan perawat dapat memberikan pelayanan keperawatankepada klien kanker payudara dengan menerapkan asuhan keperawatan yang kongruen dengan nilai budaya.

A Qualitative Study on Breast Cancer Patients' Life AbstractDeath due to breast cancer remains a high-rate case both in Indonesia and in the world. The purpose of this study was to explore the life of breast cancer patients' in maintaining their life quality. The transcultural Nursing method was utilized as a framework in this qualitative study. The sampling technique was purposive sampling from 6 breast cancer patients residing in Garut. The data collection techniques were interview and participatory observation. The data analysis used analytical methods of Medeleine Leininger's Transcultural Nursing. The results showed that there were domains as a pattern of breast cancer women in Sundanese culture, namely: 1) the devotion of Sundanese women, 2) the adaptation of breast cancer on their clients to live their lives, 3) the meaning of death. The conclusion of the study is that there lies a cultural pattern which interconnecting the lifestyle of Sundanese women. It is recommended that nurses should provide healthcare services to breast cancer clients by implementing one which is congruent to the cultural values of the clients..
