Bioethanol produced from lignocellulose feedstock is a renewable substitute to declining fossil fuels. Pretreatment using ultrasound assisted alkaline was investigated to enhance the enzyme digestibility of waste paper. The pretreatment was conducted over a wide range of conditions including waste paper concentrations of 1-5%, reaction time of 10-30 min and temperatures of 30-70°C. The optimum conditions were 4 % substrate loading with 25 min treatment time at 60°C where maximum reducing sugar obtained was 1.89 g/L. Hydrolysis process was conducted with a crude cellulolytic enzymes produced by Cellulomonas uda (PTCC 1259).The maximum amount of sugar released and hydrolysis efficiency were 20.92 g/L and 78.4 %, respectively. Sugars released from waste paper were fermented into bioethanol with Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The maximum concentration of bioethanol estimated was 9.5 g/L after 48h of cultivation, the yield and volumetric productivity were 0.454 g/g glucose and 0.2g bioethanol/ L h. respectively. This study of ultrasound and sodium hydroxide treatment may be (we think) it will be a promising technique to develop bioethanol production from waste paper.

A safe, green, and cost‐effective procedure is introduced for synthesizing bismuth oxychloride (BiOCl) nanoparticles as an alternative to the time‐consuming ones with hazardous chemicals. In this regard, BiOCl was synthesized in both nanoplates and nanoflowers morphologies employing choline chloride: a urea‐based deep eutectic solvent, as a green solvent through the popular solvothermal and anion exchange synthesis approach. Accordingly, nano‐flowers and nano‐plates of BiOCl were synthesized by exposing {010} and {001} facets, respectively, while different characterization techniques showed excellent patterns and high purity of the synthesized nanoparticles. They are exploited as electrode modifiers for fabricating a high‐performance electrochemical nickel ion sensor to control the quality of water, and industrial waste liquor concentrates. The adsorption stripping voltammetry technique revealed that the electrode used for nickel detection with BiOCl nano‐plates was more sensitive than with BiOCl nano‐flowers. To achieve optimal electrochemical values for the proposed sensor, variables interactions are investigated using the central composite design method. The limit of detection, the electron transfer coefficient, and the number of transferred electrons were obtained to be 0.26 μm, 0.166, and 1, respectively. Evaluating the sensor application in the presence of other heavy metal cations showed its promising capability of nickel ion detection in real samples.

Rheological instrument is one of the basic analytical measurements for diagnosing the properties of polymers fluids to be used in any industry. In this research polycarbonate was chosen because of its importance in many areas and possesses several distinct properties.Two kinds of rheometers devices were used at different range of temperatures from 220 ˚C-300 ˚C to characterize the rheological technique of melted polycarbonate (Makrolon 2805) by a combination of different investigating techniques. We compared the results of the linear (oscillatory) method with the non-linear (steady-state) method; the former method provided the storage and the loss modulus of melted polycarbonate, and presented the Cox-Merz model as well. One of the major problems in measuring the viscosity of polycarbonate at high shear rates, especially at the extremes of temperatures, was that during the use of the capillary rheometer, long molecule chains led to high viscosity.

The abstract should be written using third person instead of first perso The fast microwave assisted pyrolysis (FMWAP) of water hyacinth (WH) for biochar production is investigated. Taguchi’s method was used to optimize FMWAP parameters. The effects of microwave power, temperature, microwave absorber (activated carbon) ratio, and biomass particle size on biochar yield as the response for the process, were studied. The maximum yield was achieved using the optimized conditions of microwave power-994 W; temperature-300°C; microwave absorber ratio-0.25; and biomass particle size-0.0315 mm. The reaction time was kept constant at 2 min. The analysis of Signal to Noise ratio (S/N) and variance (ANOVA) were used to identify the effect and the significance of the process parameters on biochar yield. The final results show the significance of all process parameters on biochar yield. The order of significance of these parameters are: microwave power > temperature > microwave absorber > biomass particle size. The produced biochar was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analyzer (EDX). The WH biochar has macroporous and microporous structure and amorphous in nature with some mineral oxides attached to the surface.
