Our study was conducted to assess the advantages and disadvantages of use of endoscopes use in septoplasty. Hundred patients with symptomatic deviated nasal septum were randomly divided into endoscopic septoplasty (ES) group and conventional septoplasty (CS) group of 50 patients each. The two groups were compared for technique, improvement in symptoms and complications. The postoperative symptoms and complications were significantly less in ES group due to better visualization and minimal dissection.

Background:Tracheo- bronchial foreign bodies have always posed a challenge to the ENT surgeon as they present with varied symptomatology ranging from a simple cough and fever to more grave respiratory distress. It requires a strong suspicion, early diagnosis and timely intervention to reduce the overall morbidity and mortality .This study was undertaken to highlight our experiences in handling cases of tracheo- bronchial foreign bodies (FB) at our setup.

Methods:It is a retrospective case series study conducted in S.
Background: The complications of chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) are still prevalent in the developing countries like India. They pose a great challenge in the management. The objective of the study was to study the demographic pattern, symptomatology and pattern of extracranial complications of CSOM.

Methods: Patients of both sexes presenting with extra cranial complications of chronic suppurative otitis media were included. A proforma drafted for the study of these patients was used. The patients were subjected to investigations to confirm the diagnosis.

Results: In our study of 25 cases of extra cranial complications of CSOM, there were 14 females and 11 males.8 cases were in the age range of 11-20 years. Of the 25 cases, 22 belonged to the low income group and 3 to mid income group. Most common symptoms at presentation were otorrhoea, hearing loss, ear ache, postaural swelling and postaural discharge. Most cases were from rural area. Regarding extracranial complications, 10 cases (40%) had subperiosteal abscess, 4 (16%) mastoid fistula, 2 (8%) acute mastoiditis, 3 (12%) labyrinthine fistula, 2 (8%) facial palsy alone and 3 (12%) had multiple extracranial complications (facial palsy with mastoid fistula). Total facial palsy cases were 5 (20%).

Conclusions: Most common age group affected were less than 20 yrs of age, females more affected than males, Low socio-economic group children were affected commonly. Ear discharge and ear pain were common presenting complaints. Subperiosteal abscess was most common extracranial complication followed by mastoid fistula, acute mastoiditis and facial palsy.

Background: Brainstem evoked response audiometry (BERA) is a diagnostic tool which can be used to assess the early hearing loss and planning rehabilitative procedures. It is noninvasive and can be performed in uncooperative children.

Methods: To evaluate the hearing threshold and find the incidence of hearing loss in infants and children under 10 years of age.

Results: Totally, 55 patients under 10 years of age were included in the study. 15 children had normal hearing (27.27%) and 40 (72.72 %) were found to have sensorineural hearing loss. Amongst 40, 19 (47.5%) children were found in the age group of 1-5years. 14 (35%) were found to have profound hearing loss, 15 (37.5%) had severe, 8(20%) had moderate, 3 (7.5%) had mild hearing loss.

Conclusions: Newborn screening is mandatory to identify hearing loss in the prelinguistic period to reduce the burden of handicap in the community. BERA should be carried out as a routine procedure to detect hearing impairment in high risk children and rehabilitative measures should be started as early as possible.

Endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy is an established surgery for nasolacrimal duct block. We did a prospective study to evaluate the results and advantages. All the 90 patients underwent endoscopic DCR and 26 patients had septoplasty simultaneously. Postoperative evaluation of patency and relief of symptoms was done up to 6th month. Our study concludes that endoscopic. DCR is a safe, simple procedure with a better success rate and fewer complications along with review of literature.
