Purpose The purpose of this paper is to test the conceptual model of consumers’ intention and satisfaction towards mobile wallets. This study uses the integrated UTAUT model which includes variables such as ease of use, trust, security, self-efficacy, etc., and an additional variable (hedonism) to test consumers’ behaviour in the context of mobile banking technologies. Regression analysis, ANOVA and descriptive analysis are used to test the relationship among several dimensions such as perceptions, preferences, satisfaction and usage rate of mobile wallets in North India. A sample of 204 North Indian consumers was taken to understand the consumers’ adoption behaviour towards mobile wallet. The study explains the significance of the proposed model and its effectiveness to understand the behaviour of North Indian consumers. The result shows a significant association between consumers’ perception, preference, usage and satisfaction. Security, trust and hedonism are few of the most influencing variables in the study. Demographic variables such as gender and age also influence consumer satisfaction and usage rate of mobile wallets in North India. The proposed model and results of the study bring valuable insights into researchers and practitioners in the context of usage of mobile wallets. Design/methodology/approach Various standardized scales were used in the present study. Statistical techniques like descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, t-test, χ2 and regression analysis were used to assess the data. The data were collected with three separate questionnaires on variables perception, preference, usage and satisfaction. Findings Findings of this study show a strong relation between customer’s perception, preference and satisfaction of mobile wallet users. The result also shows the impact of customer’s perception, satisfaction and preference on the usage rate of mobile wallets in India. The authors have collected responses from the various regions in south and North India. Research limitations/implications The first contribution of this study is that it shows a strong correlation between consumers’ perception, preferences and satisfaction. Various studies are available to understand the impact of perception on satisfaction (Samudra and Phadtare, 2012; Venkatesh and Davis, 2000, Thakur, 2013), but very few studies have integrated it with preference and mobile wallet usage. Moreover, no study is available on these variables specifically for North Indian consumers. This study is unique in the sense that it discuss the association of consumer’s perception with type of transactions they prefer to do in M-wallets. This paper also identify one more crucial factors, “hedonism” which is not discussed extensively in the literature. Practical implications The study has several implications to the mobile technology industry and the banking system to identify new strategies for mobile wallet usage. Factors like security, convenience and trust influence consumers’ intention. This indicates that industries and banks must verify users’ privacy norms and evaluate social trends to enhance user’s satisfaction and usage rate. Hedonism is determined as one of the significant variable to measure consumer’s satisfaction and usage tendency. Mobile technology providers should work on the appearances and design of the apps, and promote its convenience and benefits to increase its usage in North India. Based on the findings of this study, companies can also evaluate preferred wallet services for consumers, and factors affecting those services. This will help them to add more attractive services based on consumers’ feedback, and remove unwanted services. Social implications The study also stressed the impact of society and family/friends on mobile wallet’s usage. Customers learn new things from family and society and get influence with their choice and preferences. This will help institutions to understand various factors leads to mobile wallet usage and enhance the satisfaction level of customers. Originality/value Although various studies have been conducted on the perception of customers on various mobile payment systems, but this paper is the first of its kind to study customer’s perception about wallets and type of transactions; they prefer to do through mobile wallets. This paper also study the impact of mobile wallet usage and various factors affecting the usage rate. This paper also identified one crucial factor, “hedonism”, which is not discussed thoroughly in the literature, and its significance in North India.
Purpose Although considerable research has been completed on employee voice, relatively few studies have investigated employee silence. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between employee silence and job burnout as well as the possible mediating role of emotional intelligence (EI) on the silence-burnout relationship. Design/methodology/approach This paper reports the findings of an empirical study based upon the survey of 286 managers working in four different states in India. Correlational and mediated regression analyses were performed to test four hypotheses. Findings Contrary to findings from studies conducted in Western countries in which employee silence was positively related to undesirable work outcomes, in this study, employee silence was negatively related to job burnout. Additionally, results indicated that the relationship between employee silence and job burnout was mediated by EI. These findings suggest the importance of considering country context and potential mediating variables when investigating employee silence. Practical implications This study demonstrates how Indian employees may strategically choose employee silence in order to enhance job outcomes. Originality/value This study is one of the few efforts to investigate employee silence in a non-western country. This is first study that has examined the role of EI as a mediating variable of the relationship between employee silence and job burnout in India.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the role of trust, perceived organizational support, and emotional attachment in bridging the gap between resistance and readiness to change. Design/methodology/approach A conceptual model including five constructs is developed. The questionnaire survey using the study variables readiness to change, trust, perceived organizational support, emotional attachment, and resistance to change was used in this study. Descriptive statistics and mediation regression analysis are used to test all hypotheses using the survey data of 276 middle-level managers. Findings The findings reflect how readiness to change reduces the impact of resistance to change during organizational change. Furthermore it also finds that how trust, perceived organizational support, and emotional attachment mediates the relationship between resistance and readiness and reduces the gap between the two. Research limitations/implications The findings in the study have made significant contribution to the literature especially on middle-level managers in the Indian context. There was a paucity of research done on the study variables. The mediating effects of the study variable have never been explored earlier and therefore make an immense contribution to the field of knowledge for practitioners and academicians. Practical implications The research results have many practical implications. It could be established that trust, perceived organizational support, and emotional attachment have a strong and positive association with the management of change. Linking of study variables during change is helpful for the top managers for better understanding during a major organizational change. Supporting the employees through human touch during change will lead to easier transition. Understanding of various dimensions that influence employee to readiness for organizational change is an important endeavor for organizational change. Social implications The research is of utmost significance for the top management as it can provide a better insight to understand and keep in mind the key aspects during organizational change in such a way that chances of resistance reduces to minimal. If the employees are contented by receiving support from their bosses, if there exists a mutual trust which increases emotional attachment, introducing change in the organization will be much easier for the management. Originality/value This research attempts to investigate how during times of turbulent change in an organization trust between the employees and their supervisor, perceived social support, and emotional attachment with the organization positively impact the change management process. The findings provide valuable insights for the top management to understand the psyche of its employees and provide them a human touch during the time of organizational change.
The purpose of the study was to explore the relationship between Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment and to investigate the moderating effects of Trust and Locus of Control on the relationship between Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment. The study was administered on 247 middle level managers belonging to private sector organizations. Four validated instruments were used in the study. Statistical tools like Descriptive Statistics, Factor Analysis, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Hierarchical Regression Analysis were used to analyze the data. The study found that Job satisfaction was positively related to Organizational Commitment and Trust and Locus of Control moderated Job satisfaction and Organizational Commitment relationship. The findings of this study can assist the administrator and policy makers to understand the managerial effectiveness from the perspective of personal traits. Efforts can be made to explore managers’ perception towards themselves and their roles. The future academic endeavours might make use of the present study as a stepping-stone for further exploratory and confirmatory research towards a more complete understanding of the satisfaction considerations in particular.
PurposeThe present study examines the mediating role of teleworking and the moderating role of resilience in explaining the relationship between perceived stress and psychological well-being of working mothers in India. Conservation of resource theory (COR) is taken to support the present study.Design/methodology/approachThe data of 326 respondents has been collected from working mothers in various sectors of Delhi NCR region of India. Confirmatory factor analysis was used for construct validity, and SPSS Macro Process (Hayes) was used for testing the hypotheses.FindingsThe results of the study found an inverse association between perceived stress and psychological well-being. Teleworking acted as a partial mediator and resilience proved to be a significant moderator for teleworking-well-being relationship.Research limitations/implicationsThe study is based at Delhi NCR of India, and future studies may be based on a diverse population within the country to generalize the findings in different cultural and industrial contexts. The present work is based only on the psychological well-being of the working mothers, it can be extended to study the organizational stress for both the genders and other demographic variables.Practical implicationsThe study extends the research on perceived stress and teleworking by empirically testing the association between perceived stress and psychological well-being in the presence of teleworking as a mediating variable. The findings suggest some practical implications for HR managers and OD Practitioners. The organizations must develop a plan to support working mothers by providing flexible working hours and arranging online stress management programs for them.Originality/valueAlthough teleworking is studied previously, there is a scarcity of research examining the impact of teleworking on psychological well-being of working mothers in Asian context. It would help in understanding the process that how teleworking has been stressful for working mothers and also deliberate the role of resilience in the relationship between teleworking and psychological well-being due to perceived stress, as it seems a ray of hope in new normal work situations.
