Background Type 2 diabetes is a severe, chronic illness that necessitates lifelong care. Research suggests that individuals with enhanced emotional and psychological skills, typically experience greater success in managing and mitigating the adverse physical and psychological ramifications of the condition. Among the psychological approaches that have demonstrated efficacy in assisting diabetic patients is acceptance-based emotion regulation. The present study aims to enhance our understanding of the ways in which acceptance-based emotion regulation therapy can benefit individuals with diabetes. The study builds on Gratz and Gunderson's emotion regulation model, expanding upon its concepts and application to the diabetic population. Method A series of in-depth interviews were conducted with patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who had undergone acceptance-based emotion regulation therapy. The treatment program encompassed 14 two-hour therapy sessions. Results The findings of this study provide a comprehensive account of the strategies employed by informed patients to regulate their emotions effectively. Conclusion Qualitative research examining the subjective experiences of patients undergoing therapy can equip therapists with valuable insights to enhance the quality of care provided.
BackgroundAfter a piece of information is put into a network, its fate depends on the behaviors of the nodes of the network; nodes that are equipped with the hardware and software of the age of information and are more powerful than any time in the past. This study suggests that a useful research for communication, marketing and advertising would be one that looks for patterns in the reactions of the nodes toward different pieces of information.ResultsThis study has used Facebook to see how people have reacted to different types of messages in terms of liking, sharing and commenting. Rather than looking for universal, generalizable patterns we have tried to examine the practicality of the proposed method. The practical aspect of the study comes after a short theoretical discussion on the issue of flow of information in a digital world. The results revealed dozens of significant relations between the examined variables.ConclusionsThis study, its theoretical discussion and results suggest that it would be practical to study the relations between the characteristics of Facebook messages and the type of reactions (liking, sharing and commenting) that they attract.
We are exposed to a constant stream of messages many of which originate from unreliable or untrustworthy sources. Moreover, it is not possible to control the messages before they are published and allow the dissemination of the verified ones only. Growing a critical mind can be a practical way to prevent the accumulation of incorrect or inaccurate information in our brains. The current study tried to see whether or not university students hold a critical view of social media messages. First, in a qualitative study, hundreds of messages shared on social media were observed, 12 of which were chosen based on the popularity of their central themes. Many of the messages contained an extraordinary claim such as the existence of mermaids, human-like complex emotions in animals, etc. Then, in a survey, the chosen messages were shown to 379 university students. The respondents were asked to express their opinions about the messages. For each of the 12 messages, between 36 to 94 percent of the respondents just assumed the messages to be true. The analysis of the responses revealed weak critical thinking among the students.
