Two of the most examined dimensions of personality that have an affective influence on language learning are extroversion-introversion and risk-taking. In the paper we first define and look at the different studies conducted to examine the relationship between the two factors and second language acquisition (SLA). Results show that extroverts seem to take full advantage of language-use opportunities as they tend to be sociable, and are more likely to join groups, more inclined to engage in conversations both inside and outside the classroom. However, results have also concluded that a more introverted personality may be better suited to classroom learning, especially reading and writing skills. Risk takers; who are believed to be inherently extroverts, are more likely to take their existing language system to the limit.Such learners are more likely to change and more resistant to fossilization. Language proficiency is influenced directly by classroom participation which reflects, among other things, the contributing influences of risk-taking.
The level of second language acquisition depends on many factors controlled by nature or shaped by nurture. The present paper studies the role of individual learner differences in second language acquisition (SLA). The individual differences, viz., age, sex, aptitude, motivation, cognitive style, learning strategies, and personality are defined and classified. A detailed review of the studies conducted in relation to the seven individual differences follows. The paper concludes by emphasizing that a language teacher must recognize the individual differences in his/ her students in order to impart effective language learning
Individual variability of second language learners is considered one of the most important factors in the second language acquisition. This paper discusses the PhD level research conducted in the area in various universities. In all, the different personality variables like empathy, self-esteem, anxiety and extroversion/ introversion are defined first. This is followed by a discussion on five theses that deal with the different aspects of relationships between a second language learner's personality and his/ her proficiency in the second language. A summary of the work done by the researcher, the methodologies used, conclusions reached, is given.
This study was conducted to examine the influence of Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS) on the academic performance as well as the learning experience of students in VIT University, Vellore, India. The respondents in this study were randomly selected 100 students of VIT University. A survey was conducted by using a questionnaire through online survey form for information gathering about FFCS relating to academic performance and learning experience of students. The academic performance was gauged by the result of their current CGPA. The results of the study revealed that FFCS system has serious effect on students' learning experience. It was concluded that there was a strong effect of FFCS on academic performance as well.
