La salud mental, física y social están íntimamente relacionadas, siendo la salud mental el pilar central del bienestar y la calidad de vida con implicaciones para el desarrollo de las naciones. En la actualidad existe una amplia gama de estrategias de atención farmacológicas y psicosociales que han sido insuficientes, lo que ha llevado a la necesidad de seguir invirtiendo en estrategias de intervención no solo efectivas sino accesibles económicamente. El presente documento presenta una reflexión teórica para la comprensión de la etiología y correlato del estrés, la ansiedad y la depresión dado que su comorbilidad plantea vías bioquímicas y fisiológicas en común con el fin de diseñar estrategias de prevención de enfermedades mentales y promover la salud mental como intervención desde una perspectiva de la salud integral.
