A simple method to simulate multicomponent ionic migration associated with electrochemical chloride extraction from hydrated cement paste or concrete has been proposed based on classical electrostatic theory and the Nernst-Planck equation. It has been shown from preliminary calculation results that the method reproduces qualitatively several of the features observed in experimental studies of pore solution composition profiles generated around embedded steel cathodes, but fails to provide quantitative agreement with the experimental data.
