Abstract.Having an adequate knowledge of mental disorders is valuable for recognizing, preventing and treating them effectively. This study explored the adolescence's general knowledge of mental disorders (mental health literacy) in Surakarta, Indonesia. Data was collected by an open ended questionaire developed from Jorm's theory of mental health literacy. There were 130 students from 5 junior dan senior high schools in Surakarta who participated in this study. Descriptive analysis was taken to all data. Results showed that students's mental health literacy were not adequate. Their knowledge about mental disorder were not comprehensive.
Teenagers living in orphanages have limited parental assistance during their sexual development, putting them at risk of premarital sexual behavior. Psychoeducation, which involves providing information and training skills, has been widely known as a psychological intervention but has not been widely used to address sexual behavioural problems in adolescents. The purpose of this study is to find out if interventions in the form of psychoeducation can reduce premarital sexual behavior in young men living in orphanages. The research method uses quasi-experimentation with one group pretest-posttes design. Research subjects numbered 6 people selected using purposive sampling with the criteria of adolescents aged 15-19 years, living in the orphanage X Boyolali, conducting premarital sexual behavior. The research instruments used a scale of sexual behavior with data analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The results of this study showed that psychoeducation is effective for lowering premarital sexual behavior in adolescents
Penurunan kemampuan fisik dan kualitas hidup yang dialami oleh lansia dapat menimbulkan penurunan kesejahteraan psikologis. Lansia perlu mendapatkan dukungan dari lingkungan, termasuk dari generasi muda agar mampu meraih kesejahteraan psikologis secara optimal. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah meningkatkan pengetahuan tentang lansia pada generasi muda melalui kegiatan psikoedukasi dengan pendekatan kasih sayang. Pendekatan ini menekankan pentingnya rasa aman, pertemanan, motivasi hidup, penyesuaian diri, dan upaya religiusitas-illahiyah melalui penayangan video. Dari 40 santriwati, sebanyak 10 orang yang berusia 18-25 tahun menyatakan bersedia menjadi peserta psikoedukasi ini. Peningkatan pengetahuan santriwati diukur dengan kuesionair pengetahuan tentang kesejahteraan lansia yang disusun peneliti. Hasil dari kegiatan psikoedukasi selanjutnya dianalisis secara kualitatif dan menemukan bukti peningkatan pengetahuan santriwati terkait kesejahteraan psikologis lansia.
Background: Mental health literacy refers to knowledge and beliefs about mental disorders which assists individuals in recognizing, managing, and preventing mental disorders. However, little is known about mental health literacy among the society in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. This study aimed to describe mental health literacy among the society in Surakarta. Subjects and Method: This was a descriptive quantitative study conducted in Surakarta, Central Java. A total of 288 people were selected for this study. The data were collected using questionnaire with the concept of mental health literacy from Jorm. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. Results: Mental health literacy among the society in Surakarta showed: 1) the community had not comprehensively understood mental disorders; 2) the community identified 1 factor as a cause of mental disorders; 3) people better recognized behavioral symptoms than other symptoms of mental disorders; 4) people relatively understood early treatment in people with mental disorders through social support; 5) the community understood prevention of mental disorders even though they are still in the form of partial without concrete actions. Conclusion: Mental health literacy among the society in Surakarta is yet to be improved.
