Introduction. The paper deals with the issue of realities and prospects of distance learning at higher education institutions of Ukraine. Distance learning in Ukraine has been implementing for more than twenty years and distant learning technologies are used at most Ukrainian higher education institutions, but the necessity and feasibility of the introduction and development of remote technology is questionable both to faculty and students. The main purpose of this paper is to synthesize the real state of distance learning in Ukraine and outline its development prospects at higher education institutions of Ukraine. Materials and Methods. The paper represents the analysis of the survey results of student answers of four classical, pedagogical, maritime and agrotechnological higher education institutions regarding the practical implementation of distance learning in their institutions. The study of the realities of distance learning in the practice of higher education institutions in Ukraine has been conducted among 102 students. The questions concerned student attitude to distance learning, distance learning organisation, advantages and disadvantages of distance learning. Results. The survey results show all four higher education institutions where the survey has been conducted have the information technology support of distance learning (websites, access to the Internet), students of all four higher education institutions are familiar with distance education, use this technology, but most of them prefer mixed learning. It is partially uncomfortable for students to work remotely with theoretical training materials and practical tasks, but they prefer automated remote testing. The most preferable aspects of the distance learning technology students are reading the theoretical material and viewing video lectures remotely and sending completed assignments over the Internet. According to the opinion of most students, the great advantage of distance learning is the ability to combine work and study and self-determination of the study time and place. As the most significant disadvantage of distance learning, students have indicated that it requires self-motivating learners. Discussion and Conclusion. The research results allow researchers to identify the realities of distance learning in Ukraine consisting in provision students with the access to distance learning at most higher education institutions. Certain prospects of distance learning development in Ukraine such as updating the software, hardware and material resources of higher education institutions, providing the broadband access to the Internet to higher education institutions of Ukraine are highlighted. It has been noted that ensuring the process of obtaining an educational degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s degrees) at higher education institutions of Ukraine is possible by taking massive open distance courses.
The paper is tended to investigate the gamification activities use in educational electronic environment of maritime higher education institutions. Gamification methods with examples are described (gamification testing, QR Code quest, storytelling and escape room). Comparative characteristic of traditional learning and learning using gamification in educational electronic environment is given in the article according to different criteria: the place and role of teacher or students in the learning process; type of information communication; methods of training; equipment; level of freedom of the actions; presence of the problems in educational process; level of its control and learning outcomes. The paper also presents examples of gamification activities based on escape room quest to form communicative competency of future maritime professionals. Escape room activity presented in the article contains storytelling element, crossword and electronic testing questions of different types. Question types listed in the paper are Drag and drop to the text, Short answer and Multiple choice. Escape room activity was done by second year cadets of Kherson State Maritime Academy. According to the received results, knowledge quality increased by 10% and success by 20%. Further investigation of gamification activities can also be done for learning system of maritime higher education institutions using simulation technologies of virtual, augmented and mixed realities.
Progress of modern digital technologies enlarged the quantity of researches about implementation and usage of VR technologies in education process of higher educational establishments. The article provides analysis of best practices of simulation technologies application in maritime education. Absence of national research experience, evidence base for efficiency of new VR simulators operation leaves this issue open to be investigated in terms of researches on their performance effectiveness. The article proposes overview of advantages of VR technologies implementation aimed at building and shaping of future maritime specialists’ professional competences. Authors investigate potential application possibilities of interactive and representative potential of immersion digital technologies during education process at maritime educational establishments. Problem of VR technologies integration into education and training of future seafarers is highlighted, as well as possibility to use virtual courses in the process of future maritime specialists’ training. The article reveals prognostic validity of VR simulators used for building of professional competences.
The article describes the concept of sustainable development, which is one of the modern trends of scientific research in the 21st century. The analysis of scientific researches has been carried out in the context of the mentioned problem of sustainable development, the tendencies of development of the network interaction theory as factor of sustainable development of maritime education have been transformed into pedagogical practice of maritime higher educational establishments. The main objective of the article is to express the idea that the rapid development of information is the main impetus for the transformation of education, updating its content and forms, methods and technologies, improving the efficiency and accessibility of quality education. The process of network interaction on the example of creating an e-course for foreign students is substantiated. There was considered the possibility of modernizing the training of maritime professionals using modern information technologies (distance technologies, augmented reality and VR). The prospect of network interaction ideas has been proved, which is confirmed by the effectiveness of the introduction of the Moodle e-course for international entrants. It is shown that the students participate in network interaction, create the frame for successful adaptation of international students in Ukraine.
The current global trends are analyzed on paper in education with order to identify the main trends of higher education in Ukraine. There are known that fast-changing information society one of its main features is uncertainty today's. There are taking into account the current trends in the educational development and information technologies in planning the work of higher education institutions will determine the development directions of higher education in Ukraine. The analysis of foreign scientific articles and studies allowed to highlight the key trends in the higher education development, which should lead to transformations in Ukraine: the impact of information and communication technology leads to further improvement of material and technical, and educational, and methodological provision of HEI and transformation of approaches for teaching and learning; attention to the quality of education prompts to the search for certification mechanisms and the integration of national quality assurance schemes at the international level; coordinating the universities role as institutions of culture and the commercialization needs of higher education requires coordinating local needs and priorities, taking into account standards, practices and expectations at the national and international levels; the era of the information society and increasing the role of relevant data lead to a constant analysis of the work to the law enforcement in conditions of uncertainty and rapid change in order to make managerial and strategic decisions; necessary to increase human resource capacities urges the introduction of policies to encourage and promote an interdisciplinary approach in higher education, mainly in the area of research, training and implementation of educational programs; it is important to pay attention for accelerating the implementation of educational technologies in higher education, in particular new solutions for mixed learning, a culture of innovation, study spaces redevelopment, immersed teaching methods, a collective approach for learning, open educational resources, cooperation between institutions of higher education; international practice of the educational services concept encourages the implementation and the diversification for educational programs to formal and informal education.
