Стаття присвячена розробці методики визначення маскувальних характеристик аерозолеутворюючих речовин та аерозольних засобів з врахуванням контрасту об’єктів, що прикриваються аерозольним утворенням, при спрощеному підході до визначення масової концентрації аерозолю на трасі спостереження. Даний підхід ґрунтується на одному з положень теорії перенесення оптичного випромінювання у розсіюючих та поглинаючих середовищах, яке полягає у тому, що показник ослаблення аерозолю пропорційний концентрації цього аерозолю на шляху проходження випромінювання. Це означає, що при утворенні аерозолю у постійному об’ємі відношення показника ослаблення аерозолю до масової концентрації цього аерозолю не залежить від масової концентрації, а залежить тільки від фізико-хімічних характеристик речовини, що використовується для формування аерозольного утворення. Це дає змогу, створивши довільну концентрацію аерозолю у постійному об’ємі і, визначивши показник ослаблення для цієї концентрації аерозолю, визначити параметр маскуючої здатності. Вимірювання показника ослаблення оптичного випромінювання в аерозолі виконується відомими фотометричними методами. Отримано математичні залежності обчислення маскуючої маси та непрозорої довжини аерозольних утворень як функції від маскуючої здатності аерозольного утворення та контрасту об’єкту на підстилаючому фоні.
