This paper analyses Emotional Intelligence (EI) in Colombian Primary School Children depending on their location (rural or urban) and gender. The final sample consisted of 1451 students in fourth and fifth grade of three provinces in Boyacá department. Emotional Quotient Inventory: Youth Version (EQ-i: YV; Bar-On & Parker, 2000) was used for data collection. Both the reliability and validity of EQ-i: YV have been determined for this sample. The main results revealed differences in EI according to location. Overall, EI was higher in the urban than rural settings. Also, scores on the dimensions interpersonal and adaptability differed by gender. Additionally, the need for future research and development of Social and Emotional Learning programs in schools is discussed.
Implementation of the Master of Teaching (Secondary): methodological aspects and results of its evaluationThis work is part of a research project -The CUDICE Project, developed during the academic years 2009-10 and 2010-11, focused on the design, development and evaluation of science curriculum for the "Master of Teaching in Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Languages Teacnhing" at the Universities of Granada and Almería. The project involved teachers responsible for specific matters related to Experimental Science. The purpose of this paper is to describe the instruments and statistical analysis used, as well as the results obtained from a number of variables studied, in order to evaluate the curriculum implemented in the three groups into which the Master was given. It is not intended to give an exhaustive description of the results, but to show the reader an overview of the variety of instruments and procedures, both quantitative and qualitative, used. The most remarkable conclusion is that the implementation of the Master, in what affects specific matters related to Experimental Sciences, can be formatively assessed and this, in turn, investigated by a systematic improvement plan.
The aim of this chapter is to analyze the psychological well-being of university students, their self-concept and certain behaviours and attitudes of violence in couple relationships by gender and cultural group (European vs. Amazigh) as well as to determine the relationship amongst the three constructs evaluated. For it, 100 university students of the University Campus of Melilla, Spain, participated in the research. The Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS), the Test of Self-Concept Form 5 (AF-5), and the Dating Violence Questionnaire (DVQ) were the instruments used for the data collection. Main results showed differences by gender on the Degree of distress experienced by the presence of violent behaviours and attitudes in couple relationships, the Academic/Professional Self-concept and Self-Esteem. Regarding cultural group, differences were showed on the Couple Relationships Scale of PWBS. In addition, different correlations were found. Finally, the need to address the elements analyzed at the university context is discussed.
