Amaç: Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, İzmir ilinde kırsal kesimin gelir durumunun ve tasarruflarının belirlenmesidir. Tasarım/Metodoloji/Yaklaşım: Araştırma İzmir’in Kemalpaşa, Tire ve Kınık ilçelerindeki 126 tarımsal üretici ile yüz yüze anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamındaki işletmeler tarımsal gelir gruplarına göre oluşturulan 3 grup altında (0-50.000 TL, 50.000-150.000 TL ve 150.000 TL üzeri) analiz edilmiştir. Üreticilerin demografik ve sosyo-ekonomik özellikleri ortaya konularak, gelir grupları arası farklılık olup olmadığı istatistiksel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Belirli bir dönemde tasarruf yapan ve yapmayan üreticiler belirlenerek, üreticilerin sosyo-ekonomik özellikleri ile tasarruf yapma durumları arasında fark olup olmadığı istatistiksel olarak test edilmiştir. Analizlerin son aşamasında üreticilerin tasarruf yapma amaçlarının belirlenmesi ve üreticilerin tarımsal üretimde karşılaştıkları zorlukların ortaya konulması adına Best-Worst yönteminden faydalanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırma sonuçlarına göre üreticilerin %52,4’ü tasarruf yapabiliyorken, %47.6’sı tasarruf yapamamaktadır. İşletmelerde gelir düzeyine bağlı olarak tasarruf yapma oranlarının da arttığı tespit edilmiştir. Üreticilerin tarımsal gelirleri üzerinde etkili olan en önemli faktör “ülkenin ekonomik durumu” olmuştur. Best-Worst yöntemi analiz sonuçlarına göre, üreticilerin tasarruf kararları almalarında en önemli kriter çocuklarının eğitimi ve geleceği olmuştur. Özgünlük/Değer: Makroekonomik politikaların tasarrufları arttırıcı yönde geliştirilmesi, özellikle gelir arttırıcı, harcamaları kısıcı uygulamalar yanında tasarrufları değerlendirmede bireyleri teşvik edici uygulamalara gidilmesi önem taşımaktadır. Araştırmanın politika yapıcılara yardımcı olacak bulgular taşıdığı ifade edilebilir.
