Mitoloji, insanın yaratılışından başlayarak onun doğa ve toplumla kurduğu ilişkiyi çok katmanlı ve alegorik olarak kuran oldukça önemli bir olgudur. Her bir toplumun kendine ait ontolojisini ve etik kurallarını belirleyen/etkileyen mitosları bulunur. İnsan topluluklarının mitoslar aracılığıyla yücelttiği değerleri ya da kahramanları ve tüm bunların bileşiminden oluşan efsaneleri birbirinden farklıdır. Toplumların benliklerini oluşturan ve hayatı daha iyi anlamalarında onlara ilham olan mitolojik hikayeler müzik, tiyatro, edebiyat ve sinema gibi sanatın farklı dallarında karşılık bularak bugüne kadar varlıklarını sürdürmüştür. Burada da özellikle ele alacağımız sinema mitolojik hikayelerden ayrı bir şekilde düşünülemez. Sinema mitleri tekrardan yaratmakla birlikte yeni mitler oluşturarak da anlatılmak isteneni yani ifade etme şeklini güçlendirmektedir. Aslında bu haliyle sinema toplumları etkisi altına alarak onların düşünme şekillerini yansıtmaktadır. Burada her ikisini benzer kılan en önemli unsur hayal ve gerçeğin adeta bir aradaymışçasına algılanmasıdır. Bu yüzden sinema, yaşamımızda mitolojinin tekrardan şekil alarak karşımıza çıkan bir başka yanıdır. Aynı mitoslar gibi sinemanın insan yaşamını değiştirici ve dönüştürücü unsurları bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışmada yönetmen Celine Sciamma’nın Alev Almış Bir Genç Kızın Portesi (ing. Portrait of a Lady on Fire) örneğinden hareketle Orpheus mitinin karakterler üzerinden nasıl yeniden yorumlandığı ve Orpheus'a olan bakışın kadın gözünden belirlenimini ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda çalışmada literatür taraması ve betimsel analiz yönteminden yararlanılmıştır. Film üzerinde yapılan analiz sonucunda Orpheus ve Eurydice gibi güçlü mitolojik öykülerle filmin arasında bir ilişkinin var olduğu, mitoloji ve sinema ilişkisinin metinlerarası olarak günümüz sinema öykülerine uzandığı sonucuna varılmıştır.
