ANALYZING ARALIK DISTRICT FLOODS OF IGDIR CITY WITH GPM EARLY AND LATE PRECIPITATION DATAIt is not possible for point based precipitation measurements to represent large areas due to chaotic nature of atmosphere and topographical influences. Point measurements are representative for a limited region based on time, location and altitude. With developing technology, meteorological radars can be used in measuring precipitable water. This enables distributed precipitation data. However, topography may lead inaccurate data acquisition especially for low-level cloud based local precipitations. Satellite based precipitation data that are free from topography effects have been produced since 2000. Between 1997 and 2014 provided various precipitation products having 0.25x0.25 and 3-hour spatial and temporal resolutions respectively. Since February 2014, Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) satellite is providing various precipitation products with 0.1x0.1 and half-hour spatial and temporal resolutions as a TRMM follow on. In here Aralık district floods of Iğdır city will be examined with the early and late data of Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM (IMERG). Early and late Imerg data recorded during floods will be compared and most suitable data for flood detection will be examined.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
