PurposeModeling of the methods for providing improvements in business processes by value adding is researched with an integrated approach. The main purpose in this approach is improving the processes by determining and analyzing the weak points and reducing the weakness degrees.Design/methodology/approachThe designed model determines weak points that need to be improved, analyzes them to find privileged processes in improvement by considering improvement costs and obtains the improvement degrees for defining the improvement strategy by four‐phase business process improvement framework: start‐up, self analysis, defining improvement strategy for making changes, feedback, and continuous improvement.FindingsThe key factor in keeping up with changes in market conditions is systematic application of improvement efforts and providing planned and controlled value addition with these improvements. Decision problems in process improvement can be structured to provide input data suitable for multi‐criteria decision making techniques and results meet the solution expectations.Research limitations/implicationsThe reason for using analytical hierarchy process, goal programming, and linear programming model is to select the process and determine its improvement degree. Solving the decision problems by these techniques is a time consuming process, so forming suitable programs with decision support systems will be useful.Practical implicationsThe theoretical structure of the modeled techniques in this study was examined with an industrial application. The application process and the results suitability were determined.Originality/valueThe proposed model shows improvement amounts according to the amount of defined importance degrees. It presents an advantage to decision makers by giving concrete improvement values from model results determining their improvement strategies.
Biogas is one the promising sustainable energy options due to high availability of organic wastes. Turkey is an energy importer country and diversification of the energy production with indigenous resources is vital for energy security. In Turkey, agricultural activities and livestock farming have important economic value. Biogas production from anaerobic digestion of organic wastes such as livestock manure is of great importance for renewable energy production and waste management for health and environmental protection. In this study, the animal manure based biogas potential, energy value, greenhouse gas emission reduction potential and organic fertilizer generation capacity of the Aegean Region of Turkey were determined. In modern business management, the effective management of organizational structures based on goals within the scope of modern management concepts, as well as the continuous improvement of processes for increasing competitiveness, are critical. The purpose of this study is to discuss the matter of risk identification and analysis, practices that are seen in many different fields within the scope of the notion of sustainable management. It aimed to add the dimensions of targets and risk analysis to the scope of process analysis and development, within this study. The stages, starting with the definition of the processes in the process model through the targets based on the risk analysis, are transformed into a quality assurance cycle and completed with the determination, monitoring, and evaluation of the sustainable process development activities. The performance indicators of the business processes in a textile business were determined, and the identification of a model structure with systematic traceability was provided, in practice. The opportunities and threats encountered in achieving the determined goals were identified. The defined factors were examined within the scope of the failure mode and effects analysis and risk analysis methods. The risk evaluations were performed using fuzzy numbers. The results obtained by fuzzy failure mode effects analysis were evaluated through the MATLAB Fuzzy Logic Design Toolbox model. Risks were ranked as a result of the evaluation, and process development activities were chosen.
