BackgroundThe primary aim of the present study was to compare temperament and character traits and levels of alexithymia between patients with panic disorder and healthy controls.MethodsSixty patients with panic disorder admitted to the psychiatry clinic at Fırat University Hospital were enrolled in the study, along with 62 healthy age-matched and sex-matched controls. The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV axis I (SCID-I), Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), and Panic Agoraphobia Scale (PAS) were administered to all subjects.ResultsWithin the temperament dimension, the mean subscale score for harm avoidance was significantly higher in patients with panic disorder than in controls. With respect to character traits, mean scores for self-directedness and cooperativeness were significantly lower than in healthy controls. Rates of alexithymia were 35% (n=21) and 11.3% (n=7) in patients with panic disorder and healthy controls, respectively. The difficulty identifying feelings subscale score was significantly higher in patients with panic disorder (P=0.03). A moderate positive correlation was identified between PAS and TAS scores (r=0.447, P<0.01). Moderately significant positive correlations were also noted for PAS and TCI subscale scores and scores for novelty seeking, harm avoidance, and self-transcendence.ConclusionIn our study sample, patients with panic disorder and healthy controls differed in TCI parameters and rate of alexithymia. Larger prospective studies are required to assess for causal associations.

Olanzapin kullanımına bağlı saç dökülmesi: Bir olgu sunumu İlaca bağlı alopesi; yaygın saç dökülmesi şeklinde olup, sorumlu ilacın kesilmesiyle geri dönüşümlü olan bir yan etkidir. Psikotrop ilaçlar içerisinde bu yan etkiden dolayı en çok, valproik asit ve lityum suçlanmıştır. Ancak atipik antipsikotiklere bağlı saç dökülmesi ile ilgili yayın sayısı oldukça kısıtlıdır. Yazımızda olanzapin tedavisine başladıktan sonra ortaya çıkan ve sadece tedavinin sonlandırılmasıyla düzelen, yaygın saç dökülmesi olan bir olguyu sunmayı amaçladık.

Olguların sosyodemografik özellikleri, gönderilme sebepleri belirlenmiştir. Çalışmamızda vakaların büyük bölümünü oluşturan suça sürüklenen (n=80) ve cinsel istismar mağduru çocuklar (n=31) üzerine odaklanılmıştır. Bulgular: Suça sürüklenen çocukların yaş ortalaması 13.72 ± 0.94 olup, % 93.8'i erkek cinsiyettir (n=75). Olguların % 63.9'u ilköğretime devam etmekte ve % 93.7'si şehir merkezinde yaşamaktadır. En sık hırsızlık suçu (% 37.5, n=30) sebebiyle gönderilen olguların, % 75'ine işlendiği iddia edilen suçun hukuki anlam ve sonuçlarını algılama ve bu fiille ilgili davranışlarını yönlendirme yeteneğinin yeterince gelişmiş olduğu şeklinde rapor verilmiştir. Cinsel istismar kurbanı çocukların % 71'inin kız cinsiyette olduğu ve % 65.6'inin maruz kaldığı cinsel istismar sonucunda ruh sağlığının bozulduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç: Sayısı gün geçtikçe artan suça sürüklenen çocukların, suç işlemeye yatkınlığını arttıran faktörlerin belirlenmesi ve bu konulara yönelik tedbirlerin alınması gerekmektedir. Cinsel istismar kurbanı olguların çocuk psikiyatrisi polikliniklerinde takip ve tedavilerinin sürdürülmesi, gelecekte ortaya çıkabilecek ruhsal rahatsızlıklara karşı önlem alınması önem arzetmektedir. Sociodemographic characteristics of the children and reasons for referral determined. The study was focused on delinquent children (n=80) and victims of sexual abuse (n=31) that made up the vast majority of forensic cases. Results: The mean age of the delinquent children was 13.72 ± 0.94, 93.8% were male (n = 75), 63.9% continued to primary education and 93.7% lived in the city center. Background: Given that on the one side considerable similarities between hypochondriasis and obsessive- compulsive disorder (OCD) by means of sharing a number of features, including intrusive thoughts and repeated checking (Barsky, 1992), on the other side similar structural neuroimaging data that found hypochondriac patients to have significantly smaller mean left and right OFC, and greater left thalamus volumes compared to those of healthy controls. Aims: We considered to investigate the hippocampal neurochemicals, found changed in OCD patients, in hypochondriac patients. Methods: Fifteen patients with hypochondriasis, recruited from our out- or in-patient clinics, were compared with 15 healthy control comparisons in regard to proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (¹H-MRS) imaging of hippocampus. Results: The patients with hypochondriasis had lower right and left NAA/CHO, and NAA/CRE, and near-significant lower right CHO/CRE hippocampal ratios than healthy matched comparison subjects. Conclusion: The data of the present investigation in patients with hypochondriasis provide preliminary evidence of lower right and left NAA/CHO, and NAA/CRE, near-significant lower right CHO/CRE hippocampal ratios, revealing neurochemical alterations in hippocampus and a further support the notion that hypochondriasis shares a variety of neurobiological similarities with OCD.

ÖZET Amaç: Bu çalışmada bir grup Multipl Skleroz (MS) hastası ve kontrol bireyinin mizaç ve karakter özellikleri ile aleksitimi düzeyinin karşılaştırılması amaçlandı. Yöntem: Çalışmaya Fırat Üniversitesi Hastanesi Nöroloji Kliniğine başvuran ve çalışma ölçütlerini karşılayan 60 MS hastası ile yaş ve cinsiyet açısından eşleştirilmiş 60 sağlıklı birey kontrol grubu olarak alındı. Hasta ve kontrol grubuna Mizaç ve Karakter Envanteri (MKE), Toronto Aleksitimi Ölçeği (TAÖ-20) ve Genişletilmiş Özürlülük Durum Skalası (GÖDS) ile klinik-sosyodemografik özellikleri sorgulayan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu uygulandı. Bulgular: Mizaç ve karakter bileşenleri açısından MS grubunda; zarardan kaçınma (ZK) skoru yüksek, kendi kendini yönetme (KY) ve sebat etme (SE) skorları ise düşük saptandı. Alt ölçek analizinde ise MS grubunda düzensizlik ve çabuk yorulma skorları yüksek, beceriklilik ve sosyal onaylama skorları ise düşük saptandı. Aleksitimi düzeyi açısından ise MS grubunda; duygularını tanıma zorluğu, dışa dönük düşünce ve aleksitimi toplam skorları yüksek saptandı. MS grubunun TAÖ toplam skorları KY ile negatif (r=-0,307, p=0,017), kendini aşma (KA) ile pozitif (r=0,291, p=0,024) korelasyon gösterdi. Sonuç: Araştırmamızın sonuçları MS hasta grubu ile kontrol grubu arasında MKE parametreleri ve aleksitimi düzeyi açısından farklılıklar gösterdiğini ortaya koymuştur. Objective: The present study was intended to compare the body image, self-esteem, temperament and character traits of a group of patients who applied for aesthetic rhinoplasty with healthy controls subjects. Methods: Thirty patients who applied the Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Clinic at the Fırat University Hospital for aesthetic surgery were included in the present study. In addition, thirty healthy individuals who met the study criteria and were matched the patient group by age and gender were included in the study as the healthy control group. Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI), body image (BI) scale, The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and sociodemographic data form were applied to patient and control groups. Results: The patients with aesthetic rhinoplasty had higher body image (BI) scores compared to the control group (t = 2.828, p = .006), and had higher novelty seeking (NS) (p = .038) and lower harm avoidance (HA) scores for temperament dimensions. The outcomes of the correlation analysis yielded a positive correlation between the RSES and BP scores and the HA temperament subscale scores were positively correlated with RSES (r = 0.389, p = .033) and BP (r = 0.461, p = .010) scores. In addition, a negative correlation (r = −0.496, p = .005) was determined between the RSES scores and self-directedness (SD), which is a character subdimension. Conclusion: The present study established that there existed differences in the aesthetic rhinoplasty patient group in terms of body image, self-esteem, temperament and character traits. The differences in temperament traits could indicate that the condition is hereditary. Determining such differences was considered significant for both identifying patients as candidates for surgery and predicting the level of satisfaction from surgery. In order to obtain better results, it is required to perform longitudinal studies with larger sample.
