Türkiye son yıllarda başta Suriyeli sığınmacılar olmak üzere farklı coğrafyalardan ciddi bir göçmen ve mülteci akınıyla karşı karşıyadır. Bu göç sürecini yönetmek her açıdan zor olduğu gibi hedef ülkelerin sınırlarını göçmenlere kapatması ve külfet paylaşımına yanaşmaması, Türkiye’yi siyasi, ekonomik ve toplumsal yönden zor duruma düşürmektedir. Özellikle Suriye’deki savaşın devam etmesi ve geri dönüş konusunda yaşanan belirsizlik nedeniyle sığınmacılara karşı medyada giderek artan ırkçı ve yabancı düşmanı nefret söyleminden kimi toplumsal kesimler etkilenmekte ve karşılıklı güven bunalımı yaşanmaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra mevcut durumu siyasi rant aracı olarak kullanmak isteyen ve sığınmacıları “evlerine zorla geri göndermekle tehdit eden” politikacıların söylemi nedeniyle, sığınmacıların güvenlik kaygısının büyüdüğü görülmektedir. Diğer taraftan kentsel eşitsizliklerin en yaygın olduğu mekânlarda barınmakta olan sığınmacıların dezavantajlı yerel topluluklarla kültür çatışması yaşaması, sosyal risklerin büyümesine yol açmaktadır. Çoğu kez şehrin kenar mahallelerinde yalıtılmış ev, okul, işyeri ve sosyal çevre içine sıkışan ve ev sahibi toplumla iletişim kurmakta zorlanan sığınmacıların uyum sürecine nasıl dâhil edileceği, sorusu önem kazanmaktadır. Bu çalışma, kentli sığınmacıların mekânsal yalıtılmışlık ve dışlanmışlığa direnebilmesi ve sosyal uyum sürecinden kopmaması için yapılması gerekenlere odaklanmış ve ilgili kesimlere çeşitli önerilerde bulunmuştur.
