Abstract..The profitability of a CSP plant is highly affected by the efficiency of the solar field: it is essential to maintain mirrors' reflectivity at high level to avoid thermal power loss. Dust fouling is the main cause of reflectivity loss and cleaning of mirrors is a crucial activity to restore economical level of reflectivity. However, the high cost of cleaning operations requires the study and identification of a balanced plan for the dust removal. The dust generation and transport to the plant site is the first mechanism that needs to be modelled to identify the optimal schedule for cleaning operations and it is highly dependent on weather conditions. Several studies have suggested a dependency of reflectors performance with humidity level, frequency of rainfalls, wind and mirrors' tilting angle, however rarely quantitative correlation studies have been performed to validate these hypotheses. The aim of this research is to provide an in-depth insight on interaction between the main parameters and airborne dust concentration, providing quantitative information for the development of future mirror dusting models. Outcomes evidence the crucial role of high winds responsible of dust concentration in conjunction with higher wind direction frequencies in the range 60-120°. Actually, in this scenario a perfectly monotonic increase of dust accumulation in the air has been observed with high correspondence of wind direction. A very low effect is provided by the ambient temperature as the contribution of the barometric pressure.
Purpose This study aims to define, classify and interconnect the wide range of known entrepreneurial abilities with terms such as skills, capabilities and competencies, which have been used inconsistently within the entrepreneurial field. Design/methodology/approach This investigation is based on a systematic literature review and strengthened by a meta-analysis equipped with a bibliometric study to assist the generation of outcomes with a quantitative investigation. Findings This study proposes an evolving entrepreneurial ability model which interconnects genetic and acquired skill types, capabilities and competencies and is equipped with an Entrepreneurial Skills Map essential to operate in the 21st century. Research limitations/implications The proposed model is specific to the entrepreneurial field. Practical implications This study supports universities and government agencies for the development of educational programs to prepare current and future entrepreneurs to match the changes in the new environment that has emerged with the COVID-19 pandemic. Originality/value This research contributes to the entrepreneurship research domain by shedding light on the inconsistent use of non-standardised terminologies and providing an entrepreneurial model and updated skills map to guide scholars to frame research in the post-COVID era with more clarity.
Abstract:The effect of dust accumulation on CST (concentrated solar thermal) reflectors is to deflect, or scatter, incident light rays missing the receiver with a subsequent power produced loss. Dust fouling is site specific, and the understanding of interactions between different weather and or environmental parameters is crucial for plant profitability. This research intends to provide useful insights on the interaction between the most relevant weather parameters affecting soil accumulation. Results show a significant dependency of dust concentration versus humidity and ambient temperature, as well as a nexus between wind speed and ambient temperature seems to exist. As long as the temperature decreases an increase of humidity and dust concentration occurs. This phenomenon takes place mostly overnight till the first hours of the morning. Therefore, mirror's reflectance looks extremely affected by dust accumulation because of high humidity rate during the night and dews of early morning. Further investigations are required to validate the hypothesis that, a more effective cleaning activitie to restore plants' reflectivity are to be carried out during the early morning.
The current work is present in a form of practical approach of solar energy systems which are part of the current energy mix. This paper intends to explain the importance of relying on solar energy generating power plants as an answer to climate changes and international agreement on pollution reduction. The current work focuses on the dispatchability issue, overcome by concentrated solar thermal power plants.
