La verificación de la presencia de juegos de palabras en la BH es un asunto controvertido, pues varían entre los especialistas los criterios para: 1) su definición, 2) su clasificación y 3) el discernimiento de sus funciones. Este artículo repasa diversos acercamientos al fenómeno en los estudios bíblicos, incidiendo en la disparidad de los criterios empleados y de los términos y las clasificaciones resultantes. Se quiere mostrar el modo de operar biblista comparando sus enfoques y métodos con otros de la lingüística actual, por lo que, previamente, se presentarán algunos resultados de la lingüística generativa en el terreno de los juegos de palabras para ilustrar: 1) las diferencias en percepción, catalogación y caracterización del juego de palabras entre la lingüística y los estudios bíblicos y, derivado de ello, 2) mostrar un posible camino a seguir por estos.
La interjección הֶאָח aparece nueve veces en la BH. Es una vocalización que expresa la alegría por la desgracia ajena y que busca escarnecer a un objetivo, ya sea un individuo o un colectivo pertenecientes al propio grupo social del emisor o no. En consonancia con las teorías sociales del humor, que se centran fundamentalmente en la función hostil de la risa, se observa que הֶאָח refleja onomatopéyicamente un tipo particular de risa que puede ser socialmente «abrasiva» o «lubricante». Se enumeran aquí las apariciones de esta interjección en el texto bíblico, analizándola a la luz de los estudios sociológicos sobre el humor humillante y ofreciendo algunas conclusiones.
Este artículo intenta mostrar la aportación del gag, o imagen dinámica tendente al equívoco, al desarrollo narrativo de las historias bíblicas. Pese a ser una de las materias primas más importantes de la comicidad en las artes visuales, el gag puede considerarse desde un punto de vista narratológico para valorar sus aportaciones a la trama de una narración, también bíblica. La narración a través del gag supone una manera alternativa de plantear problemas, desarrollar tramas o culminar episodios, y su carácter distintivo se debe a la fuerza de las imágenes que plantea. Por muy chocante o extemporáneo que parezca, el gag está siempre al servicio de la narratividad general, que quedará tanto más expuesta cuanto mayor sea la fuerza de la imagen construida. Esta hipótesis es presentada mediante algunos ejemplos bíblicos.
