SLAM is an abbreviation for simultaneous localization and mapping, which is a technique for estimating sensor motion and reconstructing structure in an unknown environment. Especially, Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) using cameras is referred to as visual SLAM (vSLAM) because it is based on visual information only. vSLAM can be used as a fundamental technology for various types of applications and has been discussed in the field of computer vision, augmented reality, and robotics in the literature. This paper aims to categorize and summarize recent vSLAM algorithms proposed in different research communities from both technical and historical points of views. Especially, we focus on vSLAM algorithms proposed mainly from 2010 to 2016 because major advance occurred in that period. The technical categories are summarized as follows: feature-based, direct, and RGB-D camera-based approaches.
Small hepatocytes (SHs), which are known to be hepatic progenitor cells, were isolated from an adult rat liver. SHs in a colony sometimes change their shape from small to large and from flat to rising/piled-up. The aim of the present study is to clarify whether the alteration of cell shape is correlated with the maturation of SHs and whether extracellular matrix (ECM) can induce the morphological changes of SHs. We used liver-enriched transcription factors (LETFs) such as hepatocyte nuclear factor (HNF) 4 alpha, HNF6, CCAAT/enhancer binding proteins (C/EBP) alpha, and C/EBP beta, tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TO), and serine dehydratase (SDH) as markers of hepatic maturation. To enrich the number of SH colonies, the colonies were isolated from dishes and replated. Replated colonies proliferated and the average number of cells per colony was about five times larger at day 9 than at day 1. When the cells were treated with laminin, type IV collagen, a mixture of laminin and type IV collagen, Matrigel or collagen gel (CG), only the cells treated with Matrigel dramatically changed their shape within several days and had reduced growth activity, whereas the cells treated with other ECM did not. HNF4 alpha, HNF6, C/EBP alpha, C/EBP beta, and TO were well expressed in the cells treated with Matrigel. Furthermore, addition of both glucagon and dexamethasone dramatically induced the expression of SDH mRNA and protein in the cells treated with Matrigel. In conclusion, morphological changes of SHs may be correlated with hepatic maturation and basement membrane (BM)-like structure may induce the morphological changes of SHs.
In this paper, we review diminished reality (DR) studies that visually remove, hide, and see through real objects from the real world. We systematically analyze and classify publications and present a technology map as a reference for future research. We also discuss future directions, including multimodal diminished reality. We believe that this paper will be useful mainly for students who are interested in DR, beginning DR researchers, and teachers who introduce DR in their classes.
Abstract.Recently, many types of omni-directional cameras have been developed and attracted much attention in a number of different fields. Especially, the multi-camera type of omni-directional camera has advantages of high-resolution and almost uniform resolution for any direction of view. In this paper, an extrinsic camera parameter recovery method for a moving omni-directional multi-camera system (OMS) is proposed. First, we discuss a perspective n-point (PnP) problem for an OMS, and then describe a practical method for estimating extrinsic camera parameters from multiple image sequences obtained by an OMS. The proposed method is based on using the shape-from-motion and the PnP techniques.
