The purpose of this research is to explore the impact of occupational stress on job performance of police employees. We theorized and tested the role of career satisfaction in the relationship between occupational stress and job performance as an underlying psychological mechanism. Primary data have been collected from 271 police employees working at AJ&K Pakistan. Results of this research study have shown that occupational stress is negatively related to career satisfaction, in‐role performance, and extra‐role performance of police employees. Moreover, career satisfaction mediates the relationships between occupational stress and in‐role and extra‐role performance of police employees. This research study has called researchers' and policy makers' attention towards an important issue of occupational stress in the police profession. The research will play an important role in compelling the top management, authorities, policy makers, and government officials of police to ponder over the issues of occupational stress aimed at enhancing the job performance including in‐role and extra‐role performance of police employees.
The purpose of this research is to explore work-related stress in the police of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K), Pakistan. The research aims to identify factors that contribute most towards job stress in AJ&K police and study the nature of and reasons underlying these factors. Political and media pressure has not been widely studied within the context of job stress in the police, and researchers have attempted to bridge this gap and make a theoretical contribution by highlighting the importance of political and media pressure as a job stressor for the police profession. This is exploratory research in which a survey was conducted in three large cities of AJ&K, Pakistan. Primary data was collected through a questionnaire comprising closed and open-ended interview questions. Descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis were conducted using SPSS. Content analysis of the interview statements was also undertaken to enhance the validity of the study. The research findings showed that although lack of resources is the biggest issue, other factors like political and media pressure, and long working hours are also significantly and positively associated with job stress in the police in AJ&K. The article draws attention towards political and media pressure as a job stressor for police. The research has an important role in compelling top management in AJ&K police to ponder the issue of job stress within their department. The findings are also important for police in other countries who are facing similar issues.
The main focus of this study is to investigate the applicants' perceived insight about the procedural justice of the recruitment and selection procedures in the public sector organizations. Data collection was made from those applicants who have gone through the process of prescribed selection process applicable for the provincial government jobs. A well designed survey questionnaire based on 5 point liker scale ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree were used to get the responses. It has been identified that the most significant issue for the selection of employees is the issue of feedback and job relatedness. The overall pattern of results indicates that both of the categories qualified and non-qualified employees showed that the fairness of the selection process is a real issue. Secondly, the departmental capacity shows they have less competent staff available for the handing of recruitment and selection process. There is a vital need that future research may focus on the specific measures that are used in making right selection, especially criterion-related validity and construct validity.
