A new case of partial leucism is described from an individual of Andean Coot Fulica ardesiaca. It was observed and photographed in the Lake San Pablo, canton Otavalo, province of Imbabura, Ecuador. White marks were present on the wings, throat and venter, while the rest of the body showed the gray-black typical coloration.Keywords. Birds, Ecuador, Imbabura, leucism. ResumenSe describe un nuevo caso de leucismo parcial en un individuo de Focha Andina Fulica ardesiaca. Se observó y fotografío en el Lago San Pablo, cantón Otavalo, provincia de Imbabura, Ecuador. Marcas blancas estuvieron presentes en las alas, garganta y vientre, mientras que el resto del cuerpo presentaba la coloración gris-negruzca típica.Palabras Clave. Aves, Ecuador, Imbabura, leucismo.Las alteraciones cromáticas en las aves y otros vertebrados son producto de mutaciones, deficiencias en la dieta y decoloración por la luz [1][2][3]. Estas alteraciones pueden deberse al exceso o reducción de un pigmento y puede manifestarse en varias partes o en todo el cuerpo y de acuerdo a las características fenotípicas de los individuos se las reconoce como leucismo, albinismo, esquizocroismo y dilución [2,4,5,6,7,8,9]. El leucismo es la pérdida de un pigmento en particular o de varios pigmentos, sin afectar las partes desnudas por una expresión de alelos mutantes o desvíos en la manifestación genética que impiden la pigmentación de la pluma [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. Individuos con piel, pelo, plumaje o escamas completamente blancos son casos de leucismo completo, mientras que aquellos donde solo aparecen marcas blancas en ciertas partes del cuerpo son casos de leucismo parcial [9,14].
