En esta nota de política se resumen de manera integral las relaciones entre cambio climático y salud, las oportunidades de contribución y recomendaciones específicas de intervención. En la primera sección se caracteriza el impacto del cambio climático en la salud de las poblaciones y en los sistemas de salud. Ya que la población se puede ver afectada de manera directa por el cambio climático por ejemplo a través de olas de calor y de manera indirecta por el efecto de las sequias sobre la contaminación del aire y la disponibilidad de alimentos entre otros. El efecto sobre la población se puede ver amplificado por las pobreza y marginalidad y reducido por políticas públicas de salud y protección social. Asimismo, la capacidad de respuesta de los sistemas de salud se puede ver afectada por ejemplo por clima extremo, por el daño sobre la infraestructura o las disrupciones del transporte de persona o la logística de medicamentos e insumos. Adicionalmente el sector salud contribuye a la huella de carbono, especialmente a través de su operación. En la segunda sección se describen las oportunidades relacionadas con el diseño e implementación de una agenda de cambio climático que incorpore a todos los sectores, y se traduzca en un plan nacional multisectorial, con una sección especifica de salud donde se incluyan acciones de adaptación y de mitigación propias del sector, asi como la medidas y métricas de su implementación y monitoreo. En la tercera sección se incluyen recomendaciones concretas para proyectos de salud con medidas de mitigación y adaptación que se pueden incluir dentro de las operaciones.
