ICH is common in elderly fallers presenting to the ED without focal findings. Anticoagulation alone did not appear to increase the risk of ICH, and aspirin was found to be protective, but prospective studies are needed to better assess this relationship.
Accurate completion of the sample death certificate and identification of injury was low, and MDs overrated their abilities. Death certificates completed by MDs may not be accurate and may underestimate the contribution of injury to elderly mortality.
This study examined the person-environment interaction effects of environmental design on ward climate, safety, job satisfaction, and treatment outcomes within a new high security forensic psychiatric facility. Participants included male and female adult psychiatric inpatients and staff members at different security stages. Data were collected once before and twice after the experimental group moved into the new building. The control group remained in the same facilities. Contrary to expectations, the new building had limited effects on the measured variables.
Clinical workload and attending physicians' availability had little effect on teaching scores. Attending physicians' clinical teaching skills, willingness to teach, interpersonal skills, and learning environment established were the important determinants of overall scores. Skilled instructors received higher scores, regardless of how busy they were.
The use of an animal lab improves the comfort level of practitioners in performing procedures. Although procedures are best learned on patients with supervision, this is not always feasible. This lab is a useful adjunct to teaching in emergency medicine and allows participants exposure to critical procedures.
