This case-mix adjusted analysis suggests that CVC and AVG are correlated with increased mortality risk when compared with AVF, both overall and by major causes of death.
In a wide variety of HD patient subgroups, differing with respect to their baseline health status, increasing body size correlates with a decreased mortality risk. This contrasts with the association between BMI and mortality in the general population, and deserves further study.
A priori clinical diagnosis of CKD is defined as pre-WES clinical diagnosis per referral by primary nephrologist. CAKUT, congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract; CKD, chronic kidney disease; ESKD, end-stage kidney disease; GN, glomerulonephritis; SRNS, steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome; TIKD, tubulointerstitial kidney disease; WES, whole exome sequencing. a Age at first presentation to medical services with evidence of CKD. b Age at start of renal replacement therapy, i.e., dialysis or kidney transplantation. The loss of a primary renal allograft was associated with significant mortality, especially in recipients with type I DM. Repeat transplantation was associated with a substantial improvement in 5-year patient survival. Recipients with type I DM achieved the greatest proportional benefit from repeat transplantation.
This analysis of current European clinical practice shows that-consistent with findings from randomized controlled trials and retrospective observational studies-cinacalcet improves attainment of KDOQI bone metabolism targets in dialysis patients with various stages of SHPT.
The strongest risk factors for RVT were retransplantation and prior PD treatment. Prevention of RVT with perioperative anticoagulation should be studied in patients who have a constellation of the identified risk factors.
The short-term renal allograft result in recipients with end-stage SCN was similar to that obtained in other causes of ESRD, but the long-term outcome was comparatively diminished. There was a trend toward better patient survival with renal transplantation relative to dialysis in end-stage SCN.
Although female renal transplant recipients have a similar death censored graft survival compared with males, there are important differences in immunological behavior. Females have a higher risk of AR while having a decreased risk of graft loss secondary to CAF.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
