Angesichts der großen Zahl der Patienten, die über das Syndrom der Brachialgia paraesthetica nocturna zu klagen hatten, erhob sich die Frage nach einer wirksamen therapeutischen Beeinflussung dieses Zustandsbildes. Die physikalisch-balneologische Behandlung (Thermalbäder, Unterwasserstrahimassagen und Moorpa&ungen) erzielte zwar in rund zwei Dritteln der Fälle gute Erfolge, jedoch erst nach etwa drei bis vier Wochen. Dadurch waren die Kranken noch relativ lange ihren unangenehmen Beschwerden in Form von Schmerzen und Parästhesien ausgesetzt. Die Wirksamkeit der Behandlung konnte aber gesteigert und die Zahl der Besserungen vermehrt werden, wenn gleichzeitig eine Behandlung mit einem reinen Nikotinsäurepräparat erfolgte (S c h o g e r)1.1 Es wurde uns von der Fa. Dr. Wander GmbH., Osthofen, das von ihr hergestellte ,,Niconacid zur Verfügung gestellt.
Die Untersuchungen des vegetativen Geschehens ini menschlichen Organismus von E p p i n g e r und H e ß, L. R. M u Il e r sowie von K r a u ß haben gezeigt, daß z w j s c h e n d e n animalen Vorgängen und den vegetativen Leistungen bestimmte Beziehungen bestehen.. Nach der Auffassung von H e ß kommt dem Sympathikus die Aufgabe zu, die Entfaltung aktueller Energie zu fördern, dem Parasympathikus dagegen die Restituierung und Erhaltung der potentiellen Energie. Bei der Erschließung weiterer Erkenntnisse offenbarte sich, daß das vegetative System u. a. einen Einfluß auf die Funktion des Kreislaufs, auf das Blutbild (H o f f) und vor allem auf die Drüsen mit innerer Sekretion besitzt. Die Geschlossenheit der Funktionen des Organismus wird sowohl unter physiologischen wie pathologischen Verhältnissen durch das vegetative Nervensystem (v.NS.) in Wechselwirkung mit dem ihm angeschlossenen innersekretorischen System gewährleistet.
