Storage-ring measurement of the hyperfine induced 47 Ti 18+ (2s 2p 3 P 0 → 2s 2 1 S 0 ) transition rate The hyperfine induced 2s 2p 3 P0 → 2s 2 1 S0 transition rate AHFI in berylliumlike 47 Ti 18+ was measured. Resonant electron-ion recombination in a heavy-ion storage ring was employed to monitor the time dependent population of the 3 P0 state. The experimental value AHFI = 0.56(3) s −1 is almost 60% larger than theoretically predicted.
Coal worker's pneumoconiosis is caused by the pulmonary deposition of coal dust, including silica particles. Several factors such as chemical composition and physical properties of silica-containing dust, particle size distribution, intensity, and duration of exposure influence the disease development. Genetic factors may also be involved. To define whether HLA-DRB may function as a genetic factor for predisposition to coal worker's pneumoconiosis, we determined DRB1, 3, 4, 5 alleles. For this purpose, DRB typing with sequence-specific oligonucleotide probes in 204 German miners with pneumoconiosis and in 52 German miners without pneumoconiosis was used. The miners had worked under comparable conditions. The frequency of DR8 (1*0801-0804) was increased in patients developing pneumoconiosis during the first 15 years of mining (p = 0.047). The frequency of DR1 (1*0101-0103) was elevated (p = 0.022) and that of DR52 (3*0101, 3*0201, 3*0202, and 3*0301) was reduced (p = 0.026) in miners without pneumoconiosis. Our data show that the presence of DR1 and the absence of DR52 support the resistance to coal worker's pneumoconiosis. Furthermore, DR8 may be involved in the rapid development of coal worker's pneumoconiosis.
516 newborn children were subject to a thorough cardiac and neurological test program after a long-term tocolysis with Fenoterol with and without a supplementary medication of Verapamil. No symptoms of a myocardial damage caused by the drug appeared neither in the electrocardiogram nor by means of lab-chemical parameters such as CK-MB, Serum-Myoglobin and CK-B. Except for premature children, no significant neurological characteristics were found either. Due to the low quantity of Fenoterol passing through the placenta and based on the minimum cumulation of Fenoterol in the fetal tissue, especially in the fetal myocardium, a tocolysis does not seem to have any significantly dangerous fetal effects, if control parameters are strictly adhered to. The endeavoured therapeutical objective, namely the prevention of premature labour, thus justifies the application of the betasympathomimetic Fenoterol.
<div><div><div><p>YcaO proteins are ubiquitous in living organisms, where they perform crucial post-translational modifications of peptides and proteins. They are used extensively in biotechnology in companies and academic settings around the world. They also underlie some of the most important natural products in pharmaceutical development, such as thiopeptides (thiostrepton, etc.). Here, we solve one of the major outstanding mysteries behind YcaO proteins: how they exert precision selectivity of the nucleophile. The resulting findings have major implications in understanding the >30,000 YcaO proteins currently in sequencing databases and will be used widely for precision synthetic biology applications.</p></div></div></div>
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
