Resumo Este artigo apresenta uma compreensão historiográfica a respeito de processos ou formas de seleção para o ingresso de estudantes no Colégio de Aplicação da UFS, no período de 1969 a 1981, e de relações com o perfil discente. A pesquisa documental selecionou e utilizou como fontes documentos da escrituração escolar, especialmente os documentos contidos nos dossiês de estudantes, coletados no acervo do Centro de Pesquisa, Documentação e Memória do Colégio de Aplicação. Esse estabelecimento de ensino, desde sua fundação em 1959, é considerado como uma escola elitizada. Contudo, a pesquisa constatou discussões e modificações realizadas na forma de ingresso de estudantes e alterações no perfil discente do Colégio de Aplicação da UFS, o qual passou a receber também estudantes provenientes de escolas públicas e de estratos sociais com renda baixa, sobretudo a partir do ano de 1975 quando o colégio utilizou o sorteio público como forma de ingresso.
Analisar os conhecimentos propostos pela disciplina escolar Economia Doméstica por meio das obras Noções de Economia Doméstica (1946), de Isabel Serrano, e Economia Doméstica (1957), de Marina Souza, constitui o objetivo do artigo. Para tanto, utilizou-se como fontes, as obras mencionadas, as legislações e o programa oficial de ensino secundário, norteando a pesquisa pelos conceitos de disciplina escolar e livro didático. Verificou-se que os saberes da Economia Doméstica não incluíam exclusivamente orientações e regras para a boa mãe, dona de casa e esposa, mas geravam conhecimentos científicos, principalmente ligados à área da Biologia, Psicologia e Sociologia.
