followed by fingerprint (a variant of parallel pattern), structureless, dotted-globular, mixed and ring-like patterns, 4,5 and finally fish-scale and hyphal patterns, which are considered two variants of the ring-like pattern, first described in the penis by Lin et al. 5 We believe that the term 'depigmentation on genital melanosis' 2 might not be appropriate in our case, given the clinical and dermoscopic findings, and the fact that the lesions (both pigmented and achromic) began during childhood, as melanosis usually affects older patients. We therefore suggest that the reticulate hyperpigmented pattern of our patient may be considered part of a unique clinical picture, i.e. focal genital vitiligo with reticulate hyperpigmentation. 1 The peculiarity of the clinical picture in our case, the lack of any relevant medical history and the presence of a reassuring dermoscopic presentation led us to the decision not to perform any skin biopsy. We hope that further cases will be reported in the future, in order to better characterize this rare clinical entity.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
