The present study was carried out from May, 2011 to March, 2012 which deals with the abundance of zooplankton in Ramsagardighi, Dinajpur, Bangladesh. A total of 27 species of 21 genera were recorded in which rotifers were more abundant with 9 genera and 12species followed by copepods with 6 genera and 7 species and cladocerans with 5 genera and 7 species from the study area. A crustacean, nauplius larva was also recorded from the study area. Monthly fluctuation of some physico-chemical parameters was also noted.Bangladesh J. Zool. 43(2): 303-312, 2015
An investigation was made on the parasitic infestation of an indigenous major carp, Labeo rohita collected from different water bodies of Rajshahi district during April 2006 to January 2007. A total of 70 host fishes were examined during the study period of which 55 fishes were found infected by numerous protozoan and metazoan parasites. In all 2348 parasites belonging to eight genera were recorded from the surveyed hosts. Among them six were ectoparasites (Trichodina, Myxobolus Chilodonella, Dactylogyrus, Gyrodactylus and Argulus) and two were endoparasite (Eucreadium and Camallanus). The infestation exhibited monthly or seasonal fluctuation, the maximum abundance of parasites was recorded in the month of December and the minimum in July. It was observed that the infection was the maximum in pre-winter to winter and the minimum in the rainy season. Prevalence, intensity and abundance of the infestation were also found to be related to different length group of the hosts, the medium sized fishes were more infested and the larger size fishes were less infested while the smaller size fishes showed medium infestation.
Some aspects of the reproductive biology viz. sex-ratio gonadal length index (G.L.I.), gonado somatic index (G.S.I.) and sex-ratio of Cirrhina reba were studied during September 2004 to July 2005. In present study the highest values of GLI (33.76) and GSI (0.63) were in the month of July. Total length (TL) and gonadal length (GL), total weight (TW) and gonadal weight ( GW ), standard length (SL) and gonadal length ( GL ) and gonadal weight relationships were found to be positive; and the relationships were: GL = -3.873 + 0.219 TL (r = 0.992), GW = 0.01511+0.000815 TL (r = 0.979), GL = -2.6030+0.253 SL (r = 0.990), GL = 0.01997+0.000938 SL (r= 0.976), GW = 13.2952+0.6064 TW (r = 0.958), GW = 0.0772+0.00233 TW (r = 0.979). The sex- ratio of C. reba were 1:1.62 for male and female respectively. The Chi-square test showed significant differences of sex-ratio among months and totals.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/ujzru.v30i0.10739Univ. j. zool. Rajshahi Univ. Vol. 30, 2011 pp. 21-24
Abstract:The research work was conducted to find out the seasonal occurrence of parasites of the major carp, Cirrhina mrigala from different water bodies of Rajshahi district during April 2009 to January 2010. A total of 95 fishes were examined of which 72 fishes were infected. Thirteen species of parasites viz. Trichodina pediculatus, Chilodonella cyprini, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Apiosoma sp., Dactylogyrus vastator, Gyrodactylus elegans, Hirudo sp., Argulus foliaceus, Lernaea sp. Phyllodistomum agnotum, Eucreadium sp., Camallanus ophiocephali and Pallisentis sp. were recorded from the infected fishes. Among all the parasites G. elegans was the most dominant parasite and skin had been found as the most vulnerable site for parasitic infestation. The maximum infestation was observed in winter season and the minimum infestation was observed in rainy season.
