Objetivou-se realizar uma revisão sobre o uso da Moringa oleífera na alimentação animal. A Moringa oleifera é uma leguminosa perene e arbórea, de origem indiana, pertencente à família Moringaceae. Popularmente conhecida como lírio-branco ou simplesmente como moringa, esta espécie possui ampla adaptação climática e edáfica, além de disponibilidade durante todo o período de estiagem. A moringa é uma planta com várias propriedades nutricionais e compostos bioativos, sendo todas as partes da planta aproveitadas. Na composição química das folhas encontra-se 28% de proteína bruta, 7,10% de fibra bruta; 5,9% de extrato etéreo, 2,5% de cálcio, 0,30% de fósforo e 12,2% de cinzas. Tais características à tornam uma excelente alternativa para alimentação animal de modo a minimizar os custos de produção e garantir maior desempenho dos animais. No que se refere à nutrição de ruminantes, as folhas e talos finos constituem fonte de proteína e de fibra de boa qualidade, que se transforma em energia no rúmen. A moringa apresenta boa taxa de degradação no rúmen se convertendo em material de alto valor para alimentação bovina, podendo ser fornecida fresca, fenada ou ensilada. Já para animais monogástricos a moringa constitui em fonte alimentar com alto teor de proteínas com ótimo valor biológico, atuando como um promotor de desempenho, refletindo seus efeitos sobre melhoria na eficiência alimentar, observando assim, o aumento para ganho de peso dos animais. A Moringa oleifera Lam pode ser uma alternativa para alimentação animal, de modo que além de nutrir os animais, possui compostos bioativos que podem possibilitar melhores resultados de desempenho e digestibilidade. Contudo, ainda são necessários mais trabalhos para que se possam determinar os melhores níveis de inclusão da moringa na dieta de monogástricos e ruminantes.
